It just seems dodgy, but also am very annoyed if it is fake because it came through a real job website and if it is fake why are they letting these people post on their website

Finally, go ahead and be annoyed, but also be glad you asked if it was a scam before you sent them money to pay for nothing, and for a job that does not exist.

Bryon already answered your question this morning. Mike has also pointed out a very valuable indicator of scam. So it should be clear now that it is a scam, plain and simple.

The scammers have simply registered a domain name, unrelated to Chevron's, to make it look more legitimate. They are also hiding their registration details, no surprise since they have no connection to Chevron.

As Bryon already said, ultimately this will turn into a request for fees for visas, permits, documents, or even travel expenses for the "job" that does not exist.

When considering whether a job offer is real, think about what is happening.

Ignoring all of the other problems with an "interview" by IM or email, the employer can't be sure who is actually filling out the questions/forms. For all they know, you could have paid someone else to sit at a computer and fill out the "interview" for you. They would run the risk of paying a lot of money to transfer a new employee overseas, only to find out that they are not the person whose answers they relied on.

Real employers learn a lot from an interview. They get to see you and know that you are answering questions yourself, and confirm nobody is helping you. They can see your reactions to the questions and whether you understand them easily, whether you need things explained to you, even whether you appeared to be overwhelmed or intimidated. They can better understand how well you carry yourself, how quickly you can think, and how suitable you will be for the area in which they are hiring.

The simple reality is that email or chat interviews exist only in the world of scammers. NO legitimate employer is going to hire you and commit to relocating you based on an IM or email interview, just as NO legitimate employer is going to hire you to work at home and handle money or packages on their behalf based on an IM or email interview (it is way too easy for someone to walk off with their money or packages.) The second an "employer" offers you a job based on this, you can be absolutely certain it is a scam.

As for them being allowed on legitimate sites, the sad reality is that every day dozens (if not more) of scammers try to use those sites to find victims. It is certainly true that ome sites are very lax about verifying the legitimacy of companies due to time and resource constraints--but the truth is, even the sites that make a serious effort to monitor for scammers are not perfect, and an occasional scammer slips through the cracks.

Someone please help. I was looking through some online overseas vacancies and came across Chevron vacancies listing. I checked the official website and see where they do have the similiar if not all vacancies showing now. I emailed from the email on the listing, not the website and got back the response below. I am not sure if this is a scam or not.
