I received an email with a business opportunity... The guy who sent me it actually has a profile on Linkedin with 443 connections with picture and everything like a normal profile (may or may not be real) His name is Rashid Al suwaidi.

I replied out of curiousity and got a response below...

Thanks for your interest showing, our company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is looking for a reliable and honest person to handle a contract supply of "Barium Petroleum Sulphonate" from the local market because these product seems to be more natural than the ones we are buying in other European market and each liter you supply you make a $20 profit on it. The total quantity for this contract is 25,000 liters (125 drums of 200-litre drum) per month.

Our management has decided to give out the contract supply to a reliable and serious hand that can deliver on time when needed. They are also offering $250,000 as a personal commission to the agent after his/her first supply in other for him to set up a representative office on behalf of the company. In addition to that an upfront payment of 125 drums will also be given to him/her immediately the contract and it's legal process are done.

Thanks for your response and interest. Note, this is a one year contract supply project, the product to supply is "Barium Petroleum Sulphonate" for oil pipeline. This is a chemical used for joining together two metals before it is welded for a longer duration.

All we require is the services of a reliable person/company to contract as international agent to supply this products to us. Yes i think you have the qualities and criteria to handle this contract, so comply with the contract Awarding Dept for further proceedings


I knew something was off after looking up the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company site...
I then googled the number provided and got to this website..
I'm posting this because there are a lot of people in my line of work (oilfield) that's now looking for jobs/investment opportunities (because of low oil price) and may be desperate and naive enough
to believe this proposal.
The scammer is cleverly mixing real website stuff with his and can look real to the unsuspecting reader.

I have just been offered an opportunity to become an agent for Oil Pipeline Steel Glue and requested to obtain and complete a supply contract document.

This is a quite widely “419 Scam” reported on Web and involves the victim paying for “visas and recruitment expenses”.

I have reported the "member" to Trust & Safety at the LinkedIn Corporation but in my process I discovered a couple of other similar "members" with the same profile information and probably running the same scam, so beware.
