I was wondering if this is a scam or not. While I was looking for a job through various job search sites, such as Monster, and I guess i applied to this one place -- Envirosmart Consulting. I received an email from them.

The email states:

My name is Gerald Kirkman. I am a HR Manager at ENVIROSMART CONSULTING. We are a huge and fast developing company. As a result, we constantly increase our staff. We now have a newly launched position of a Operation manager. For the vacancy we currently offer, we search for curious, diligent and skilled individuals. Among your job responsibilities there will be bookkeeping tasks and direct assistance of our suppliers. If you think you might be interested in working with us, please write me back ASAP. APPLY NOW

Interested, i sent a reply. A few minutes later, the same person replied:

Hello (name removed),

Thank you for your interests in our enterprise and the

Attached to this email were to files, one labeled application form, the other job description.

I started looking into the company and this Gerald person, but i cannot find anything concrete on it. The website seems a little generic and, to me, it screams fake. My partner doesn't think so.

Trying to find a location on the company, I got results from Maryland, New Hampshire, California, Montreal, Australia and Indonesia.

I couldn't find anything on the Gerald person as well. I tried Facebook and LinkedIn, but could not find anything that made sense. Whitepages also did not bring up anything useful.

The application form seemed a little off, as did the job description. Should i attach those here or just copy and paste them? One very odd thing is that, at the end of the application form, there is a box that says "I confirm that all of your information is confidential and will not be available to any third parties." and underneath it, there is an image of a signature and on top of it there is a a stamp of approval. It seems fishy to me because usually the signature and the stamp of approval is applied AFTER the application form is filled out. I may be wrong.

Anyways, what should i do with this? is there any way for sure to know if this is legitimate? am i just being paranoid? Can anyone help me?

This is listed on the website as the phone number of the Vancouver office. Vancouver is on the Pacific Ocean. Northwood is about 45 km from the Atlantic.

Hey this is a scam!

Gerald Kirkman contacted me two days ago with the exact same email as yours for operations manager.
He said he needed my passport, ID or driver's license to verify my identity and there were various benefits that a seasoned employee would receive that myself ( an entry-level student in first year of University) would NEVER get on their first job. The benefits included child day care assistance (LOL as if i had a child); Health, dental, life and disability insurance; Vacation and personal days; RRSP retirement account; Education assistance.

WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL, if this company paid for my university education man that would have been BLESSED. but no...it just had to be a fucking scam.

It is absolutely a scam. Scammers make outrageous claims to draw people in, then they burn them always by taking money. In this case the "employee" would be handling stolen money through their personal account. When the illegal activity gets reported (and it will) it is the "employee" left with all of the legal problems. People have gone to jail for scams.

One sign that a website is being used in support of a fraudulent job offer is use of ROBOTS.TXT to prevent the website being indexed by search engines and so findable by internet searches.

No doubt there are many legitimate websites that use robots.txt for privacy purposes; but why would a legitimate company wanting to attract customers hide itself?
