Hi I just had a question someone PLEASE help I just got a number from a 011000000000 they claimed that my husband had some type of legal claim on his social security??? When I brought to there attention that i thought they were a scam they threatened to have a summons sent to my mother in laws address with officers. Really? I don't understand how low they can get considering he is the the Marine Corps and does not need this happening to him with everything else in his life. Did anyone else have a similar situation? Is this a scam? :?:

The information you have given is pretty vague, and it sounds like this came out of the blue. What you are describing is not any legitimate process.

If your husband owes a debt, then any threats of arrest are in violation of the fair debt collection act. If they are claiming he owes a debt, they need to put the information about the debt in writing, period. NEVER agree to pay money or sign anything that says you owe money based on a phone call.

If your husband is in legal trouble, then once again there is a legal process that must be followed. And that process does not involve making threatening phone calls. If he needs to be served with a summons, that would be done in person.

The blocked number is also pretty fishy.

Do NOT send them anything, and do NOT agree to anything.

Simply tell them that any requests must be put in writing so your attorney can review them.

Have you or your husband ever been sued? To attach anything you must have a court judgment. Also I am assuming you’re in America for a foreign judgment to be credible it must be filed in your Jurisdiction. Also it’s my understanding that its really hard to get someone’s SS money.

I am not a lawyer and you might want to check with social security and law enforcement, but I wouldn’t worry.
