Are you sure 234 is an area code in NANP? If it's an area code, it's in Ohio, not Texas, but if it's a country code, it's in Nigeria, which has lots of scammers. Please post the whole phone number as you got it, starting with the plus sign.

Yes Im sure the area code was 234 & the scammers are located in Ohio. (234) 650-7395 this is the number that was listed on the oodle marketplace for the puppies. When i txted the scammer they informed that he was in Cleveland OH

The 234 area code does NOT include Cleveland. Cleveland numbers are 216 or 440 area code. Anyone who actually lived in Ohio would know the difference. The scammer doesn't, because he has probably never even been to Ohio, let alone lived there.

The phone number is a VOIP (computer based) number. Scammers pretending to be in the US often use VOIP numbers to support their fake location. The scammer just picked a city that he (wrongly) thought was associated with the area code.

The scammer is almost certainly actually located in Africa. Most of these pet scammers are located in Cameroon, though we do see some from Nigeria and other western African countries..

+1-234-650 is Massillon, Ohio.
+234-65 is Katsina, Katsina, which is on the northern border of Nigeria.

How did you find out they were a fake company

All companies that require payment by Western Union or MoneyGram to Cameroon are fraudulent. If a company asks for payment by WU/MG, regardless of where it is, it's pretty much certain to be fraudulent. Cameroon is the hotbed of pet scammers, though not all pet scammers are in Cameroon.
