Siberian Huskies are strong, hard-working dogs. As their name suggests, they come originally from Northeast Siberia, where they were bred to withstand extreme arctic conditions, and they came to the United States by way of Alaska in the early 1900s. Huskies are best known for their job as sled dogs, and their love to be outdoors in the cold weather. They love children and make excellent family pets. While highly intelligent, these dogs also have a mind of their own and may require some patience while training. Huskies are medium sized, and typically weigh in at around 40-50 lbs.


Origin of the Siberian Husky

One of the oldest dog breeds, the Husky originated among the Chukchi, a tribe of Siberian nomads who used teams of Huskies as a means of survival, sledding vast distances to expansive hunting grounds. They got along well with the children of the tribe, often serving as sleeping companions that provided a warm source of natural bedding.

We are a small family orientated kennel exhibiting pedigree Labrador Retrievers of quality in type and temperament. Our special interest lies within the conformation ring. However, we take pleasure in acknowledging the versatility of the Labrador retriever and encourage them to excel in their chosen fields. Be they family pets, companion, trial, Obedience, agility, therapy, assistance or conformation show dogs, our Labradors are ready to be all that is desired of them.

The health and well being of our Labradors is first and foremost, and as such we take care in ensuring that our Labradors are raised, and continue to live, in a quality environment that is safe and stimulating for their active minds and devoted hearts. We pay special attention to diet, exercise, play, responsible Breeding practices, and giving lots of cuddles!

Our Breeding Program:

Puppies are purposefully bred for temperament, soundness, and correct conformation. We take care in ensuring we are using credible bloodlines that represent the type of Labrador Retriever we believe are conformation ally correct and have the right attitude for both showing, and becoming great family members. We use both line breeding (common ancestors between both parents) and out crossing (two separate families) depending on the individual pedigrees and characteristics of our breeding stock.

Socialization and Development:

Our aim is to produce confident and curious puppies who are conditioned to relate to people and want to learn and explore. While Labrador puppies are naturally bright and friendly, raising them in an enriching environment enhances their desire to please their human family and boosts their confidence in new situations. From birth our puppies are held, stroked, and touched on their feet, bellies and faces. From three weeks of age our puppies are introduced to small toys of differing textures, listen to audio soundtracks and the radio and are handled readily. When they are up on their feet they are encouraged to explore the outdoors, are given tunnels to play in and a balance dome to think about their four feet and challenging themselves.

These experiences build confidence and help them adjust to new situations. Socialization is also very important and our puppies are handled by various family and friends, children of differing ages and are able to play with our trustworthy mature members of the Labrador Family.

We have two very cheeky cats who offer their teasing services and have chooks and horses walking around nearby. Puppies that are use to activity and various types of animals are more able to cope when they join their new family with new environments and other pets already in the home. Picture We also give our puppies opportunities to prepare themselves for their new homes, such as having car rides, wearing collars, taking baths and eating a variety of premium foods.

Health:

Puppies receive a temporary C4 vaccination at six weeks of age, a microchip at eight weeks of age, and a thorough Veterinary examination. They are wormed at two week intervals from two weeks of age. Our puppies will never have fleas and are clean, well grown and beautiful. We will guarantee that our puppies are physically healthy at the time they leave us at eight weeks of age.

Registration:

Our Labradors are pedigree dogs. That means we are registered breeders and our Labradors have registration papers Most Miandor puppies are sold on the Limited Register. This means that new owners have proof that their Labrador is pedigree bred, but they cannot breed register able puppies or conformation show our stock. This is to protect the integrity of our own breeding program, and is one measure we can take to ensure that only the best of our stock continues within future breeding programs.

Obtaining a puppy on the main register may be negotiated (depending on the availability and potential of individual pups) if it is your desire to own a show dog, Become a Labrador breeder, or are already a registered breeder. We are ready to join their new families from eight weeks of age. They will leave home with information about their diet, appropriate exercise and supervision during development, their health information – such as vaccination, Heartworm prevention and intestinal worming dates, a copy of their parents' mandatory health test results, and a transfer of registration to their new owners.

Support:

We encourage our puppy owners to keep in contact with us as their puppy grows, and to always feel welcome to ask questions or acquire further information on puppy development, Health needs and training. We offer life time support to our puppy owners – which could be 12-16 years! As responsible breeders, We continue to care about the puppies we have bred and we will assist where we can. This includes re-homing should their ever be circumstances requiring a new home to be found.

Puppy Selection:

Our puppies are first and foremost bred to continue on our conformation show lines. This means that puppies are assessed over eight weeks, or longer if required, to choose one and sometimes more, as suitable show and breeding prospects. Due to this ongoing assessment we do not have families 'pick out' their puppy from the litter. Puppies are allocated to our confirmed families based on the families' preference for colour and gender and our matching of temperament to specific family dynamics. For example, a family with small children requires a confident but sensible puppy who will take direction easily and does not have high energy levels.

As we spend so much time with our puppies, we get to know them very well. We can advise families on the developing temperaments of each Puppy and the type of guidance they will need as they grow.

About Labrador Retrievers:

The Labrador Retriever's origins date back to the 1800s in Newfoundland where a breed of dogs were developed to assist fishermen retrieve their fishing nets off the side of boats. The breed was further developed in the United Kingdom and were used primarily as gundogs who retrieved ducks out over the water and marshlands. Their size, temperament, coat type and conformation were key factors for a successful gundog who could work all day at a steady pace, swim effortlessly in the water and who had a coat designed to repel water and keep the dog warm in cold conditions.

Their temperament was that of a bidable and friendly dog with a high desire to please and retrieve. Over time the breed has become a very popular family pet and service dog due to their soft and happy appearance, their general sound and adaptable

Temperament and their willingness to work for not much return. Labrador Retrievers are also known to the general public as 'Guide Dogs' due to the large number of Labrador Retrievers that work as primary mobility aids for people with vision impairments. Who is best suited to a Labrador Retriever:

Labrador Retrievers are a versatile breed who adapt well to all sorts of family situations. They are a social dog and therefore like the company of a group, but also develop close bonds with single person families. A growing Labrador retriever requires attention and moderate exercise to keep him stimulated and from forming nuisance behaviors. Labrador Retrievers are an intelligent and willing breed of dogs who respond very well to positive training. They thrive at Obedience and trick training and are fast learners. They can be described as 'word dogs' meaning they learn many human words and phrases. Intelligent dogs make great pets but also require frequent training sessions to keep them interested and learning. A bored Labrador retriever will make his own fun – and it is usually what annoys the human family most!

Labrador Retrievers are renowned for their fun loving and happy-go-lucky personalities. Some can be over-excitable, Especially if not given the right amount of attention when they are puppies. While Labrador Retrievers make great family pets, it is a common misconception that they are naturally well-behaved or placid like the "old Labby who lives next door". Fundamentally they are a working breed in that their purpose is to swim, run and retrieve. That means they need exercise, need tasks and most definitely need rules! A young Labrador Retriever requires supervision around small children as they can be boisterous and overkeen to play. They are not dainty on their feet and as their tails wag the whole dog one happy wiggle can knock little children over or frighten them.

Labrador Retrievers are also adequate guard dogs. They are territorial of their homes and cars and give an authentic alert bark. It is not common for a Labrador Retriever to do more to a stranger other than bark, but they are still 'a dog' and there is never a 100% guarantee on any breed.

Character :

The Labrador Retriever is medium in size, strong, athletic, and well balanced. They are friendly, outgoing, and possess an extremely sweet personality. There are two types of Labrador: The American, which is tall and lanky, and the English, which is more thick and heavy. This sporting breed is adept at hunting and retrieving. Labrador Retrievers are revered as companions and highly respected for their loving nature.

This breed is easily trained. Early socialization and basic obedience are recommended. The Labrador Retriever is very strong and must be taught not to pull on their leash. They do not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. The Labrador Retriever needs fairness, firmness, consistency, reward, and respect. They excel in tracking, police work, search and rescue, agility, competitive obedience, guide for the blind, and as service dogs for the disabled.

Activity :

Delightful, high-spirited, and energetic, the Labrador Retriever requires a great deal of exercise. They enjoy family play sessions, securely leashed walks, swimming, and a safely fenced yard to run and romp freely. This breed will do okay in an apartment dwelling provided they are given sufficient exercise, attention, and stimulation.

Health:

Labrador Retrievers are generally a healthy breed of dog. They do have several hereditary diseases that could impact significantly on their life span and quality of life. This includes Hip and Elbow Dysplasia and Progressive Retinal Atrophy. More recently Labrador Retrievers have also been debatedly tested for Exercise Induced Collapse. I purchased my first Yorkie in 1989 and have been hooked ever since. I have been a Yorkshire Terrier breeder for 20 years and am very passionate about what I do. I love and enjoy my dogs.
