Scams selling or giving away non-existent animals, often Puppy Scams.

Recent pet scam when trying to adopt and purchase scottish fold kittens.
Guy with the email [email protected] is offering on catadoptions.com many different ads to adopt for "free" scottish fold kittens and "for sale" scottish fold kittens. After searching for so long, I came across this scammer's ad to adopt for "free" two female scottish folds that were 12 weeks and 2 days old with ALL of their vaccinations, MICROCHIPPED, pedigree, ANKC registered, as well as will come with all health records and everything that would make someone very fond of these type of cats die for. Here is my conversation with the scammer.

His email to me:
Hello,

Thanks for the mail and the interest in my kittens
They are micro chipped, potty trained and house broken.

Name: Cindy and karla
Age: 12 weeks, 2 days
Sex: Female
Temperament: Good with kids and Adults
Shots: Recent

-Registered/registrable
-Current vaccinations
-Veterinarian examination
-Health certificate
-Health guarantee
- Pedigree
-They like kisses and much attention.
-Legal papers for transfer.
-Friendly with kids as they love playing with them and other pets
-Bed and potty trained.
-ANKC Registration

I am giving them out due to my appointment on promotion basis at
my job site and i will be working for a series of hours that will prevent
me from being available to take care of them So that
is why i am looking to sell them to a genuine home
that will give them the love they require. But before any further details
on re homing i will like a few information of you and your family,

.Have you any pet experience?
.Have you got enough time to look after them?
.A little information on your homes and family (those who will be
close to the kittens)?
.How soon do you need the kittens?
.Where precisely do you live?
-Where are you located?
-You are a breeder?
-Do you have children?
-Can you afford their transportation fee??

Thanks and waiting to read from you as soon as possible

My email to scammer:
Hi there,
To answer your questions:

.Have you any pet experience? - Lots of pet experience! I grew up on a hobby farm in ******** with my family. From growing up on a farm, I find living without pets to be an impossible feat and enjoy their company. I've always enjoyed riding horses, helping out around the farm with the cows and donkeys, as well as feeding all the ducks and chickens. There we had a few cats at different stages and our latest one passed away at the age of 17. Other than having cats as pets, we have a dog named **** who is a pure bred golden retriever and is aged 10 years. About two years ago I adopted my tabby cat ***** from a humane society in *******. He is super nice and very talkative.
.Have you got enough time to look after them? -I have plenty of time to look after my pets, right now I work as an RN and my schedule allows me lots of time to spend at home. I am also attending a college for courses online, so my work schedule in the hospital accommodates my online course work as well as a home and social life.
.A little information on your homes and family (those who will be close to the kittens)? - The ones that will be close to the kittens would be myself and my boyfriend. He commutes to where I live and adores cats.
.How soon do you need the kittens? - Whenever is most appropriate to our schedules. I don't want to make anyone feel rushed or pressured.
.Where precisely do you live? - I live in an apartment building with a 900 square foot apartment.
-Where are you located? - I am located in *****
-You are a breeder? - I am not a breeder nor do I intend to breed any of my pets.
-Do you have children? - I do not have children at the moment
-Can you afford their transportation fee?? - I can afford transportation fees but am curious to how much this fee will be?

A question or two for you in return:

-Where are you located?
-How much would this transportation fee total to?
-Are you a breeder?

Hope this information is helpful!

Regards,
Michelle

FULL NAMES........... Michelle **********

HOUSE ADDRESS......... apartment **************

CITY............ **************

POSTCODE........... *********

MOBILE NUMBER.......... ****************

EMAIL ADDRESS........... ******************

I will take absolute care of them. I am able to take care of the two so they grow up together as sisters instead of being taken apart. Thank you very much. I do have one more question, I know some kittens and cats with their pedigrees are registered under TICA, are these kittens in a registry as well? And what is your closest transportation service you are using, so that I am aware.

Thank you!
Hope to hear from you

Michelle

At this point I read up that catadoptions.com does have quite a few scammers and people have been scammed into paying for delivery but never receiving the pets theyv've asked for. So i include in two further emails:

Sorry for more inconvenience,
But for my own security, I've seen some pet scams and just want to be safe, so if you are able to let me know the pet delivery service prior to change of papers. I've heard of some services taking money and not delivering the kittens, or money being sent to places like Cameroon and no delivery of kittens.

And lastly, where abouts do you live/are from? If close enough, I could drive down to meet the kittens and you prior to adoption.
So please let me know the delivery service before making any paper changes.

Thanks,
Michelle

good care of the kittens.like i said i will like to hear from you
before taking the kittens to the agency for registration and
delivery..Hope to hear from you soon.

----------------------------------------
Again I ask what delivery service he is using, and he continues to dodge my questions and then reverts to calling his kittens his babies and making things personal.

His reply:
Hi Michelle, we are done with the registration. The agency should be in contact with you via phone and email as they promise. This is a very reputable agency, and i had once sent a bird to my sister through them and it was a total success. Every body in my neighbor hood uses them. They help us get a direct flight for all our pet down here, i asked about the courier and they said it was going to come wit ATL, since they have a transit here and would be coming direct. Well i really don't know much. Just let me know when they contact you. I am so anxious to see delivery pictures!
Before i forget they said it was an American courier.
----------------------------------------------------------
What I didn't understand from reading this is if he brought it to the pet courier, why was it an american courier if he lived in Quebec, and why he wouldn't just state the name of the courier to me after my many times of asking 'what courier are you using?'.
__________________________________________
So I email him again stating:
Would you be able to ask them specifically what American courier? There's quite a few I know which are not safe and are scams
---------------------------------------------------------
He emails me within minutes:
I personally took the Kittens there, So this one is good. besides my sister's husband is a lawyer and will drag any one to court if any of that happens. You just have to stay positive. Nothing will go wrong. That i can assure you. Hey one honest question, Do you trust me?
---------------------------------------------------------
Again still, why is he not answering my questions and dodging it?
So I reply:

I've just looked up online how good the catadoptions site is and found that there were many of the same ad's posted. It's more difficult to trust when I haven't met you or the kittens in person. What was the name of the place you took them to?
----------------------------------------------------------
He replies:

OMG, and i was trusting you to give you my babies? Please i hope i'm not making a mistake? i took them to Cship. i don't understand you. You are making me to be skeptical.
------------------------------------------------------------
I check and Cship does not exist, there is no found website (for if there is a shipping company, a website is included where someone can track their parcel or shipment as well as look up locations, etc). So here is my other warning this guy is not for real.
I email back:

Right now I am very skeptical for Cship is not listed as a pet courier nor a reputable one. I did ask that the name of the courier be given before any arrangements go forward. I'm very sorry but I do not want to continue this transaction. Very sorry, but I do not trust now paying when this delivery service is non-existing.
------------------------------------------
[email protected] is getting very fed up with me at this point.
he replies:

Its not the courier hun, I just called them and they said its ATL Courier service and i also asked them to get in touch with you. ASAP. so are you telling me you are not more interested in the kittens or what?ATL is a reliable agency and i have being using is for some time now.Their services are good.
----------------------------------------------------------
I replied:
I am no longer interested, sorry. I do not feel safe making this transaction any more.
------------------------------------------

This ATL agency called me and said that the kittens are at their agency. ATL is an atlanta delivery service, located in ATLANTA in the United STATES! This guy has just stated that he used Cship, and then hes using ATL. AS well, he is living in Quebec but won't disclose exactly where in Quebec (to remind you, Quebec is a LARGE province).
I went back onto catadoptions.com and messaged numerous scottish fold owners who are selling or putting up for adoption their kittens. Every person that answered back was... [email protected]. He has over 7 ads on that site with all different sorts of amounts of kittens, male or female, long or semi-long hair or short haired, folded or straight eared, 1-5 kittens.
SO ALL OF YOU USING catadoptions.com BEWARE! I fought with the atlanta company, they harassed and pressured me that the kittens were going to be shipped right away. There was no WAY that guy got those kittens to Atlanta from quebec within 5 minutes of his last email to me to there.
BE CAREFUL EVERYONE! Make sure you see and meet the kittens you are adopting or purchasing as well as MEET THE BREEDER/OWNER! Pay the higher price if you have to so you don't get scammed out of your money or like me, have your high hopes broken by a scammer.

Sincerely the girl who just wanted to have a scottish fold kitten and was let down,
Michelle

As well, if you want a purebred cat or kitten, make sure they are registered under TICA or CCA or any other Canadian cat breed registry. I looked up ANKC that this [email protected] seemed to state so nonchalantly these kittens were registered under to find out that its an Australian National Kennel Council for CANINE breeds!!! Not FELINE but CANINE. He must've thought I would never have looked it up or would have been so romanced with the idea that these kittens were apart of a registry that I would feel safe to not look it up!

don't get scammed! RESEARCH!!

Sincerely,
Michelle

As well before I forget, this guy is also listed as living in EVERY area of Ontario with his ad's. I emailed the ad that stated the kittens were in the greater Toronto Area, and he said hes from Quebec. The others I emailed stated he was from Toronto, Kawarthas, Niagara Penninsula, London, Ottawa and Gattineau area, as well as Hamilton region. Where he is actually from (if not Quebec) I have no idea.
by Dotti Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:56 pm
He is not from Quebec at all. He is most likely in Cameroon. That English is clearly African.

He doesn't know anything about purebred cats or cat registries. The claim of being listed with a dog registry was ignorance, plain and simple. He just copies things he has seen in ads or emails, and is far too lazy to actually do the research and figure out what might be applicable to the animal he is pretending to sell. Same with the breeds--all he has done is look for some breeds that are selling for a high amount, stealing a few pictures, and then pretending he has them.

The "shipping company" that called you was not a shipping company at all. It was the scammer or an accomplice. There was never any shipping company involved, because there were never any kittens to be shipped.

It is best not to point out the scammer's mistakes to him, as he will improve his scam when he picks up another victim. Just drop him without explanation and move on.
