place?and the security for the Month what do I need when moving into
the place I have already told my parent about it and they are happy
I'm going back to study with my professional exams and master degree
they told me when ever I'm ready I should let them know so that they
will have the payment for the place paid at once . I will be expecting
your email to know if the place is still open so that I will let my
parent know's at once to have the payment mail to you to help me hold
up the place for a couple of days until my arrival and I hoping to
hear from you real soon,sorry I couldn't call you due to the offshore
location where the site is calls can't be received or made out I can
only send e-mail sometime's when the signal so if you don't
hear from me in time that means the signals are lost again bear that
in mind and thanks i look forward to hearing from you with your mailing address

I recently posted an room ad at Craigslist and have received numerous scam inquiries. Thank you for providing the heads of on Kelly Benson. Here is the e-mail she sent:

I actually responded before I had an opportunity to do an internet search.
Unsuspecting people get taken left and right because we are too trusting and believe in everyone is honest as we are. I really appreciate those who take the extra time to notify the rest of us about these scammers. Eternally thankful that I did not have to waste more of my time with this particular scammer.

It may surprise you to learn that this scammer is writing to you from an Internet Cafe in Lagos Nigeria.

If he writes again simply and politely reply telling him that you no longer wish to go along with the deal. You can tell the scammer that you have changed your mind or are dealing locally, etc. and then just completely ignore any and all emails from him. You don't owe him any explanation and confronting him won't have any benefit.

He has no interest in whatever was being advertised, and nobody will be calling. He wanted to send you a (counterfeit) cheque or money order for far more than you were expecting and hoped that you would cash it, and send his non-existent shipping company a large portion of the money before your own bank or cashing agent realised that the cheque or money order was bad and pursued YOU for the return of the FULL AMOUNT, possibly pressing charges against YOU for attempted fraud and money laundering.

i received two responses to a craigs list chicago ad from kelly benson. they were from two different emails in response to the same ad, both on the same day. the emails used were [email protected] and [email protected]

Hello ,
I just got a mail from my Dad that the check has been sent to
your place through Ups courier service and it will delivered to you
today (this is the tracking # for the payment.....( J223 448 989 9
)...it was sent by Dad's PA...please help me confirm and get back to
me. When I contacted my dad to know maybe the payment has already been
sent ,I got to know that there was a misinterpretation while sending
the money..According to all I explained to him,he was supposed to have
sent you a payment for the place out of the money he was supposed to
send for the room, the car I will need in school.But instead,he sent
all at once.It was a terrible mistake and check will be deliver today
.His PA claimed that he thought my dad said he should send you the whole money
for balance of the car and
the rent.But I know I very well told him to send just the amount for
the rent,but I guess he didn't get it straight.But that should not
disturb my renting your place,the deal is on and we will get through
it .
As soon as you have the check with you,and after emailing me,i will
like you to take it to the bank and
have it cashed,then remove the rental payment and help me secure the
place for me until i come over...then I will want you to help me send
the balance of the funds to car dealer so that he will help me secure
the car until I come...I will be waiting for your soonest reply and i
will give you further information.

Thank you for posting the scam mail that you received, and the email addresses.

If you do receive a check from this scammer, please do not attempt to deposit it; it will be fraudulent. You could take it to the police and report it, or simply tear it up and throw it away. If you keep it in your possession instead, please clearly mark it with the word/s 'Fake' or 'Fraudulent' or 'Sent by scammer' so that it can't be suspected that you are ever going to attempt to cash it.

I'm glad that you googled and realised this is a scam, and haven't lost any money.

It seems "Kelly" has expanded the scam to home sales also.
I posted ads for the sale of my home on craigs list and got a query from Kelly.
I don't know what this scam angle will be but these kinds of "prospective buyers" just don't seem to ask the right questions on first contact so, I google them. Kelly Benson was listed with your warning, thanks. I will not reply to her email.
