Room for Rent and other rental scams
by Sandvold Tue Aug 31, 2010 4:04 pm
They might just be a victim of the same scammers. The thing is that the site have listed the same appartments as the other ones. Might be the actual appartments for rent. But if you look on all the appartments from DC, then they use the same pictures in their ads. Which is also the same pictures as the ones at the scam pages.
I found a few others from the same guys at craigslist as well, but forgot to post them, i'll look for them while searching after a apartment

I have actually gotten rowland on the phone, I can barely understand him..the number included in my post...When I spoke to him I was well aware that I had been scammed at this point, and just asked if i was going to get my confirmation number and such and why he has not been replying to my emails, told me i needed to send $250 more. Ha. ha.

I wonder where these people are...

Hi there footknife,

I am sorry to hear you got scammed by these people :(. As you could read in my first post in this thread this is a pretty big gang, creating new websites every week. I try to get them offline as soon as possible, but as this is a very fast-paced form of scamming even a few days is too long. Right now I don't know of websites from them that are still online, could you tell me which site they sent you to? I'll get to work asap then.

I'm afraid that there is no way to retrieve your money. Payments through Western Union are very unsafe and once picked up virtually untraceable. Don't be fooled with the +4470 prefix on the telephone number, this is a redirect telephone number and transfers calls to anywhere in the world. I was able to trace them in the past - their IP resolved to Nigeria.

Hi Michael,

Yeah my girlfriend found them on Craigslist on the Kingshomeapartments.com site.

Yeah well aware that I am not going to get the money back, is Western Union able to tell you where the money was picked up?
by Michael Thu Oct 07, 2010 6:08 am
Once a payment has been made by Western Union it's completely untraceable, I'm afraid. And even if you would find out which office exactly, there is absolutely no way to know who exactly it was that picked it up - they are using fake names so the specific scammer stays out of shot.

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer

Hi there braindancer, thanks for notifying! I didn't know about that one yet. I'll add it to the list. Delrixapartments.com has already been reported, I think I forgot adding that to the list on my first post. Apologies
