Room for Rent and other rental scams
by t.marila Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:40 pm
Hi, thanks to' exist!!! You have just avoid me to loose my money... I was really CLOSE to' send the money to our common 'friend' Allison to' rent the room in London... Actually I'm still in contact with her/him/its by email and she is waiting for my answer, there is something that I can do to' stop it?! (scotlan Yard, interpol...whatever?). This is her last email after i wrote that I didn't want to pay by money gram but I could send her a friend of mine....

I am sorry i didn't inform you earlier that i don't do 3rd party deals ...but if it will make you feel better that i should meet with your friend and showing him the flat and he hands over the cash to me in person. I have a better idea because i have to be very careful about just meeting anybody especially when it comes to money matters .

Since you have a friend in London , why cant you just transfer the funds to him via western union  and scan me the receipt ..that way i would be rest assured he is your friend and i will feel free to meet with him and show him the flat and after that i will go with him to the western union here and he will get the money and pay it to me right there

Let me know if this is okay with you

Regards

Welcome to ScamWarners t.marila , we are pleased the information here helped you.

Your first step is to stop communicating with this scammer. He will only try to brind you back into the scam to take money from you.

Sadly, the police are in a bad spot. They typically cannot act until a crime has been committed. Yes scamming is a crime, but scammers hide behind email addresses, fake names and fake locations as well as international borders.

The best we can do is expose the scams, including email addresses, scripts and fake websites. Thank you for your participation here.

I also received an email from Alison:

"A simply amazing two bedroom apartment available for short or long
term period situated in Glasgow and am looking for a good Tenant who
is clean, tidy and honest person.so if you interested and really want
to know more about my apartment and my self contact or email me
at:([email protected])

looking forward to read from you soon.

Cheers"

and from 2 other guys, here are their emails:

What I wanted to say is that NEVER EVER DO MONEY GRAM OR WERTERN UNION TRANSFERS EVEN IF THEY ARE ASKING TO DO IT TO YOUR FRIEND. IF U KNOW THE REFERENCE NUMBER, YOU DONT NEED ANY ID TO PROVE YOUR IDENTITY. (or they are making fake ones). So EVERYBODY CAN TAKE YOUR MONEY.

be carefull, don't trust anyone and don't believe in their sad stories about family, healt problems or funeral...

hi guys,

i just lost my money to this person.Very sad.I just realised after i google this person name in and bring me to this website. The same story with you guys, rental an apartment somewhere in Glasgow, then sent the copy of western union receipt to this person. When i checked the transaction status, my money already picked up with someone else and not my friend.

Could anyone tell me what should i do with this problem.i am very sad .

Unfortunately, your money is lost. The scammer used fake information to pick up the cash, and is untraceable. Report the crime, but don't expect that you will see your money again. Please cut off all contact with the scammers immediately.

Scammers will often approach you again, either claiming that they will return your money, or pretending to be someone who can get your money back. This is simply a new approach to steal even more money from you.

Hi everybody,
I would like to advise you all of another version of Peta's scam! Eventhough I changed couple of e-mails with her and everything seems fine, I check out this forum and it is quite obvious it is another version of sram (unfortunatelly). I wish I could have such a nice appartment for that price. I work for my money hard so I won't risk anything:)). Thank you for info you placed here and I am adding I have received.

Take care!
