Yup, I got the same email when I responded to a craigslist posting this week. The posting had no photographs nor the address of the property, and very few details. This is the response that I got to my inquiry. It smelled of hoax to me ($900 including utilities, organization name in all-caps, absentee landlord, photographs of himself and his wife rather than the house itself, my name not included in the greeting), so I googled the name of the organization he said he worked for, and found this discussion. Thank you, all of you. Like some of you, I drove past the place, and it looked legit. If it hadn't been for you, I might have gone ahead with it---although I would have stopped short of wiring money (even if it's "refundable") to someone I haven't physically met.

Ha. I just found the same property listed on a different housing-search website, with the same text as in the craigslist ad, except that the rent is $1600/month (rather than $900), which is much more believable, and pets are *not* allowed.

Thought this was too good to be true.
Responded to an ad that was posted on LA craigslist. I received an identical email like the one posted above:

I had checked out about 1000 craigslist ads that day, so I went back and searched the address in craigslist and found the same place for almost $4000 through a real estate agent. Called him to verify, but it was memorial day.
I checked out the countys assessors office to find out who actually owns the property, looked for her in the white pages and the finally googled the foundation they were working for and found this. Apprently there is a person named Rosy who went to Law school in Socal and was practicing in FL.

BECAREFUL!!!

I got the same email in new jersey i knew it sounded too good to be true but it was toog good to not check out we even passed by the house and there was no one home lights all out so its was starting to look good then we typed in FAMILY LIFE AND HIV EDUCATION AND THE HIV PREVENTION FOR RURAL YOUTH PROGRAM and this website popped up first link on google the rest were similar sites this was from [email protected] they are crappy people to waste peoples time like this

However, my initial plan was to sell the house but it was not successful because the Realtor raised the price which made it difficult for me to sell before leaving the State so never mind if you see the for sale sign infront of the house, It has already been taken off the market as for sale so there is no need to contact any Realtor.

I bid for a portion of petroleum land sometimes ago in West Africa and fortunately I won, so I have to move quickly down to Africa to have my company set up. If you notice, you will discover that the price we are offering is far below standard price and I this is enough for you to know that we are not after the rental fee but the absolute care for the property. I know there is no way I can be sure that you are the right person to live in the house because we won't be able to see physical before sending you the keys and the documents to occupy the space. The house is available for as long as you want and if you drive by the house you may see a sign there, you have nothing to worry about it belongs to my previous agent so you have absolutely nothing to worry about and you don't have to call them because they do not have access to the house anymore.

Thanks for your email, I personally own the house, we want our property to be well taken good care of, and they are some rules and regulation in which i do give out to tenant willing to rent my house, so please don't disrespect my order, But if you are still capable of renting my house the rules and regulation goes this way.

You must keep my house clean including the surrounding, you must know the way in which you use the stove so as to avoid fire outbreak,you must not disturb the neighbor. We decided to rent out the property due to our transfer to (West Africa) on a Missionary Work because, in a church here named World Mission, so we are renting it out since we need someone to take good care of the property on my absent. Don't be surprise if you find the home with another site and different price, I have plan to rent it through Real estate before, but they are not serious simply because they have a lot of house to lease out, And they added some money to the rent while there commission is not fair.

Have this in mind you must know the kind of person that i am, But nevertheless i am giving you this rules because of what corresponded between me and my last tenant. the keys and documents are with us here in West Africa... So i will need to ship them to you before you can occupy the house, But you can drive by the house anytime to take a look at the area and surrounding, you can also peek through the windows if you don't mind.

Using the word GOD in any pitch is wrong no matter what and a sign of a scam of some sort.
Scammers are thieves and should be "strung up".

I almost fell for this scam too, a Joshua Jacobson was trying to rent a place in Carlisle. However, I went too far with it, and the scammer now knows my name and telephone number (as well as my fiance's), address, job, car, etc. The information that was on the application form. He never had any money sent to him. He does not know any of my bank or money information. However, I am now very apprehensive that the information he does have can still be used to make me a victim of fraud or a scam. Does anyone know if I am still at-risk with the information I gave out? What should I do to try and rectify the situation?

It was just too good to be true so I researched the program that they were supposed to be in and I came across this website. I also drove to the house to check it out and of course it is up for sale and thats why he was able to get pics of the place. So sad that this is what you have to deal with when searching for a home. We have to be diligent and do your research please do not send any one money or your personal information without doing some good research. Thank you for bringing this to everyones attention. So no one else will waste there time.

In case you see any sign board, they are the Realtor in charge of my house before I decided to take over by my self.
