Rental Scammer - [email protected]

Hi Guys,
I got some very fake american express travellers cheques. I then baited the scammer and told them that I had received them. They want me to cash them into MY bank account and then send the money through Western Union. Get this its in another name and place. Am just about to print off all email correspondence and take it to the fraud squad.
I hope that no one else is caught by this. Lucky for me I found you guys in time.

I also fell for this scam - it was my first time as it seemed so normal. I actually took the cheques to the bank, luckily the teller noticed they were fakes, and explained the situation to me, and that the fraud was being investigated - so I wasn't out of pocket. Even stranger, I just received a phone call from "Kerry's" "secretary", asking if I had transferred the money yet.
I'm glad I found this site, it has definately warned me to be more careful when looking for a roommate. Thanks guys.

Got this today in the UK, my details must have been skimmed off spareroom.co.uk
New name, Monika Links. Now works for a school, that should tug at the heart strings a little more.
Interestingly Monika Links does exist on Facebook, and is in South Africa, and looks to be about the right sort of age. She also works for... 'Central Mediation Service' which is where Kerry Johnson worked.
Thorough.
I was suspicious as soon as I got it, Facebooked her, found the profile, looked at the info and then noticed that one of her profile pics is in front of a car in New Jersey, yet her email said she never made it to NY. Of all the ways to cotton on to a scam, I sure picked a weird one.
Anyway, I Googled the company and found this site. Hope if anyone else comes across 'Monica Links' they'll find this and identify it as the scam that it is.

I love traveling and I have been to Australia, Seychelles, Italy, France and I narrowly missed out on New York. I'm originally from South Africa and most of families still live here in Cape Town.

I have an aunt in New Zealand too but this is my first time in United Kingdom, I will be staying for 3 month and I won't be working at all just coming to spend my long holiday . I love sports, a very enthusiastic cricket fan and what's more I enjoy meeting people.

Am o.k with the price of the room and I would make a month payment of ( £375) including the bond required, my first month rent to be issue out to you by cheque cause our school is paying for all my related expenses throughout my stay.

I need you to provide me with the details below as the information will be used to issued out a cheque to you and have it posted to your address immediately the payment is approved.
