I am SO glad that I decided to do a search on this "program" before finishing my email!!! Here's the email that I got from this person:

Thanks for your interest and inquiries about my house. Yes the house

around. My family and i just moved to West Africa for a program called
FAMILY LIFE AND HIV EDUCATION AND THE HIV PREVENTION FOR RURAL YOUTH
PROGRAM, the program is taking place in three major countries in
Europe, Africa, UK . We will be away for 2 to 3 years or more that is
why I have made up my mind to put up my house for rent to whom ever
that will take good care of it.

Also how long do you intend to stay? How soon do you intend to move in?

In case you see any sign board, they are the Realtor in charge of my
house before I decided to take over by my self. I am no more working
with them and don't bother to contact them because formerly i wanted
to sell the house before me and my Lovely Family now decided to rent
it out instead of selling it out.

Best of Regards.

The thing that made me search is that I noticed a distinct difference in the writing style in the last paragraph, which is different from all of the ones I've read on this page. I'm so glad I did a search before actually filling out this "application". Definitely going to stick to working with the real estate agent.

I got this same email from email address [email protected]
Glad I googled it. It sounded a little schemey....I guess the old addage, "if it sounds to good to be true it usually is" is right on!

Wish we could do more to stop these types of scams!

My roommate and I received a similar one. Step one was to check the property tax records, which are public record here in TX. These matched up perfectly with the name given in the email, so all looked good there. Second was to Google the program he said he was with, which brought me directly to this site. We'll be contacting the realtor on the property and/or the owner to let them know. Hopefully someone can nail this jerk to the wall  although I'm not very optimistic on that outcome.

I just fell for this scam! I sent him all my info, then he immediately approved me to rent the house in Springfield, OR--1055 S Street. Well, before sending my money, I researched to be sure it was a valid human being.

THIS SITE came up at the TOP of the Google search--so congratulations scamwarners.com, you are now at the

I hate scams! I wasn't even ON craigslist, but found the house online with rentals in my area. Same email herein was the one sent to me.

I'm always on the lookout for letters that have a slip up and reveals English is a second language. It doesn't mean that someone couldn't be legit and have English as a second language but it's one more red flag.
Even a bigger red flag I come to recognize is scammers make up names they think will be plausible to Americans.
Much of the time, the names are truly bizarre, and don't make sense, if you stop and think about it. Even more commonly they use two first names as their full name in a way that doesn't sound right. For example, I was being led on by a guy claiming to be a Brigadier General in The U.S. Air Force, and he had me going for a long time, but his name was Anderson Thomas. Some of the rental scam names have been Christopher Ronald, Alexander Pieace (he combined the words peace and piece , into a word that is illogical), one guy just signed manal, Lee Nowell, Robert A Ensor, Peter A Romero, and Jason
In most of these examples the names have something fishy about them. That and the fact that they are all out of town for some promotion, or emergency, that their wife almost always has cancer, but is getting better, that they're involved in some kind of Christian charity, of noble work. They just want a tenant that will take good care of the place, etc. Always the same basic outline with a name change and a slight variation on details.

Of course the biggest red flag of all is the too good to be true, offer. Many of the scammers in SF are posting things as absurd as a 3 bedroom for $800. When a 3 bedroom couldn't be touched for 3 times that.

I got exactly the same email reply. The bottom line is - if the owner is not around or don’t have a legal representation such as a real estate broke that you can deal with it face to face. It is most likely a scam. Just skip it and don’t waste your time on it.

This scam is still very much happening. I came across a Craigslist posting for a home rental in Washington, DC in a great neighborhood for a great price. It seemed too good to be true, and it turns out it was. After replying to the posting, I got almost the same email. It's disgusting that this scammer can still be profiting off of this and has not been caught for it. Please beware for more of these!

Wow, I feel SO dumb for not just responding to the scammer with (luckily only) some of my info but also not just researching the program mentioned because this thread was the first result. Luckily I didn't lose any money but I get the feeling that the bastard (or bot) I gave some of that info to is using my or my mom's name to scam other people.
Considering that the ad I responded to was posted August or September 2015 and how similar, formulaic, and robotic all the responses we got were, I'd wager (of course with NO education in/on Information Technology) we're dealing with some sort of bot programmed to make emails, post these ads with them, and when they get a response send back a procedurally generated email in hopes of getting money and information (like the pictures, names, etc. for increasing believability for future victims). I only think it's a bot because 4 years later It's still using the exact same program name and format. So this serial scammer is either just the laziest cybercriminal EVER or he can't access the bot to change it (although it's VERY doubtful, I hope that's because the fucker's dead). If it is a bot making all this I think the creator still has access to the emails it makes.
Well this lengthy guessing game comment probably doesn't help at all does it? >:/

The scammer is a real person.

He is just copying and pasting pre-written scripts.

You are correct scammers are lazy. They spend about an hour a day sending and responding to their scripts. Just hoping one person a month falls victim to it.

Since ip. Addresses are so easy to trace shouldn't it be a trivial matter for someone who's tech-savvy to track/trace things like this?
by Bryon Williams Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:06 pm
Recently email providers have been masking IP's.

You would need a warrant/court order to obtain the IP.

A profitable scammer will have methods to hide their IP.
