Room for Rent and other rental scams

Hi Ralph, no problems.

Not sure what I should post for other people - but here are the email addresses etc that have been used:

Alan Fletcher [[email protected]] (which was actually signed as Brian MacMillan)
Bryan Macmillian [[email protected]]
www.londonleisurehomes.com

I do not have any bank details for them as we had not yet progressed to this stage.

None of this information really checked out, both emails bounced back to me when communication was attempted and as you can see the phone number is not Uk based:

Hi there jess85,

I am quite interested in the email headers coming from hte @londonleisurehomes.com addy, could you please post them? If you don't know how to get the headers, just select your email provider on this site, which will tell you how. I could use that evidence to get it closed down. Please make a check in the headers and delete your own email adress from them (for example, [email protected] would become [email protected]). Thanks for telling your story! :D

Hi,

I have been looking for accomodation n London and found these sites that have a scammer feel to it:)

Kindly check them out or relay any info you may already have about them. I got the ads from the gumtree: holiday flats....

http://www.shortlet-london.com/contactus.html
http://www.mayfair-flats.co.uk.

I have noticed many other adverts which seem to be scams because they dont list any contact details. The only way you can contact them is via gumtree.
These are the ad references number on gumtree ... if it helps:)

Ad reference61462718
Ad reference61460554
Ad reference61459971

and many more... in short almost all the ads that were posted from about 2 days ago for short let apartments in london with rent ranging between 180GBP pw to 250GBP pw have a very scammy feel to them. they have contact numbers or addresses. the apartments seem too lovely in the pics to be that price.

Anyway please let me know..... especially if the www.shortlet-london.com is a scam.

Thankyou

I am almost certain that the bottom one is a scam (I haven't checked the first 2) there are some very basic errors in spelling and grammar right from the start but what made it look even more like a scam is the search I did on a small section of writing on the site.

"are fully furnished studio flats which contain double bed with linen, kitchen with kitchenware"

A search on that line shows 30 exact matches which pretty much guarantees that its a scam

Here is the search result Right click and select "open this link in a new window"

Thank you once again Michael, unfortunately you are completely right, it never ends.

Scammers pay for their fake site, they wait for the site to be created, they set it up and send out their spam only to find their fake site has been closed down again, they go back to their fake site maker and pay again for the next site that will be closed down.

I am sure it is extremely inconvenient to them, quite heart warming when you think about it like that :D

Hello All!
This is my first post here. I followed the trail of the scammer Bryan Macmillian! I recently had 3 fraudulent charges on my credit card and, after calling the sites I discovered all 3 were the handiwork of Bryan Macmillian.
One site he bought with my credit card is titled Londoncitylinkapartments.com and the other is called leadlondonhomeservices.com (the third site came from Streamray Inc and they wouldn't tell me anything). This guy just won't quit! I wonder though how he got my CC information?

Hi Shilohsmom , welcome to Scamwarners.

How he found your credit card information;
It could have been through one of many different means, you may have given it to a vendor who stole your information and sold it
You may have given it to a vendor who had your details stolen
If you do any online banking you may have picked up a trojan that has gathered your credit card details

It is easy done unfortunately, change any and all passwords and check your computer for viruss and it may fix teh problem and change the details of your cards.

One of our fake site experts will get onto those sites, thanksfor reporting

I can't find anything for londoncitylinkapartments.com, are you sure this is the correct spelling? Perhaps there is a typo in there somewhere. leadlondonhomeservices has no content yet, this might appear soon or it is being used as a domain to send emails from.

Without site content or a mail coming from the domain I can't do anything though :?

As for the third, unknown domain: Can you tell me what day it has been purchased? It's a long shot, but with a little luck I can find it.

Hi Michael!
All the info I have I obtained by calling the companies whose names were found with pending charges on my debit card account. The first was websitedynamics.com and they were happy to tell me that someone using the email address of [email protected] had purchased a website by the name of leadlondonhomeservices.com The second charge on my account came from a site called uol*mysite.com and that a person using the email address of [email protected] had purchased a domain called londoncitylinkapartments.com .. The third charge on my account was from a web cam site called streamray.com and they denied having charged me for anything. This one looks like a porn site and ultimately this one dropped off and I wasn't charged for it. The other 2 went through. I asked both sites to refund the money since I was canceling the service and they informed me I needed to talk to my bank about the charges. I hope this info helps someone else!

Oh I forgot to say all the charges went through on July 3rd.

Each of those websites appears to be genuine - they have all stated the information that one would expect to see; their telephone numbers have the codes one would expect; and both holidaylettings and travelstay have a long registration period for their websites. edinburgh-flats has a shorter registration period, but I notice that they are listed on the University of Edinburgh's website, as a business with a discount arrangement for University staff, which provides some reassurance.

TripAdvisor is, I understand, primarily a review website, but anyone can advertise their property on it for 60 days, free of charge. Therefore, individual properties advertised could be genuine, or they could be fake advertisements. I don't know anything more about them than that, however.

Thank you for the reply. I just got the reply from tripadvisor........dont know how genuine. Can you also check me the site www.vrbo.com
