The advertiser (on Gumtree) posts a flat for let and when contacted gives a story about not being in London (away on work). She says she has had bad previous experiences with a tenant who had to be evicted, people that just waste time wanting to see flats etc etc and would prefer if you sent money via Western Union and once you see the place you can go "together" and release the funds (this is very wrong - once you send money its out of your control).

It is not compulsory that i rent out the flat but if i can get a reliable and tidy person that will take care of my flat for me i can let it out.so i need to know them better i.e what you and your partner do for a living.

Hopefully this will go some way to other people searching for their 'landlord's' details

The scammer will have wanted you to send him money for a deposit or to prove that you have genuine interest in the property. He would have asked you send money by wire transfer (normally Western Union).

Western Union Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with the minimum of identification. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected.
