I can come down to show you the apartment if i am convinced that you are serious. The initial plan was to sell the apartment. which we tried, but the Realtor inflated the prize hence taking more time to sell, because of this reason, we need a responsible person that will take very good care of the apartment. Most importantly ,a serious and trust worthy person who will be willing to pay the rent without delay.
Note; the move-in cost is the total amount of 2 months rent and a security deposit. As a very busy person I would only take my time to fly down to the US for you to preview the apartment, only if you accept to pay the above move-in cost after seeing the apartment.
FURNITURE : Apartment is fully furnished but if you are moving in with your furniture there is a storage room in the unit where you could keep our furniture.

The request for payment is like this:
The picture of the second bedroom is not available right now. I and my wife have seriously thought about flying down from Canada to handle the transaction. We concluded that if you are really serious and have the money for the rent as you have mentioned, then for us to confirm that..
PLEASE READ THIS PARAGRAPH CAREFULLY
What we request of you is to look for a friend, neighbor, brother or sister of yours that you trust, and send the 2 months and security deposit to him or her through Western Union and email a copy of the receipt for confirmation. This will give us a proof that you have the money as you claim.I WILL THEN COME DOWN TO THE USA WITH THE KEYS AND RENTAL DOCUMENTATION TO CLOSE THE DEAL As soon as I arrive New York i will show you the apartment and sign the lease, after which You and the person that you sent the money to can easily walk down to the Western union store to pick up the cash and pay me. However, If in any case you do not like the apartment, then what you do is go back to where the money was sent from and cancel the transaction and your money will be refunded to you.. But I know that you are going to love the apartment once you set your eye on it..

BASED ON THE Western union process Your safety is secured in this process, Since the only person that have access to the money at any point in time is you and the person you sent the money to. We have been using western union for a while now to send money to John our son and it is secured and has always worked perfectly for us. I have traveled once from Canada to USA, only for it to be a wasted journey, ticket fee and business absence. Because of these number of unserious people who like to waste other people's time, we are strongly recommending the western union process to ensure it doesn't happen again, I hope you understand the situation here and our worries ?
I will be waiting to here from you.
Thanks and God bless
Regards
Lamb.

This person asks for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union payment to a friend or family member.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, this person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union and they will send the keys through a courier company.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Welcome to ScamWarners Downtown and thank you for posting this information up. Did this scammer give an email address? Having email addresses are helpful to others in finding this information with an internet search.

I have been corresponding with "Sam" about the Gramercy apt, 280 Park Ave S - found it on Craigslist. Of course though, I thoroughly do my research before trusting it, especially from Craigslist.

The email I have is [email protected] under the name Sam Lamb.

Does anybody know how this works? It's obviously a very sketchy situation even though it "sounds safe". But how does he get your money when you transfer it to a friend and show him the receipt like he asks? I stopped the correspondence with him immediately but I got up to the point of requesting the proof. Would he then ask for a transfer of funds? Or is there somehow personal/account information embedded into the receipt that only a hacker would know how to find?

Thanks!

Welcome to Scamwarners eeples63.

It's a dead cert scam.

Only scammers suggest this tactic and they ask you to do this believing you'll think they can't get the money, but if they have the form and the MTCN they don't need id, and the offices of Western Union they use aren't too strict on procedures.

If you offer any similar proof that you have funds just watch how he insists you do it this way, and that's only because he can get his clammy hands on your cash. This request alone is enough to prove he's a scammer. Any request involving Western Union and an online purchase is a scam.

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer

I just got the same run around from Sam Lamb offering a place in Park Slope for a super low price. Of course it was a scam and he used the same form letter and responses as seen in this thread. Hopefully people do their research before committing to anything online like this. As soon as he mentioned Western Union, I knew it was a scam...

Hello all, newbie here. I stumbled upon this here website, with a "profile" for this Sam Lamb fellow. You can tell he's a crook. (Either that, or this Sam Lamb fellow had his identity stolen and not for the first time.)

Link Removed - CW

Also, he just recently posted another ad on CL with a 900$ 2 bedroom 2 bath place in a very upper-class place. Knew something about it was fishy...

Be careful and be safe!

Oh, and he also goes by "[email protected]"

^^^ For your information, the real Sam Lamb isn't the scammer here. The scammer is based in Nigeria and using and abusing Mr. Lamb's name.
Mr. Lamb is aware of this and the information posted here at ScamWarners.
