Thanks to this scammer web site. I guess i saved myself of some embarassment, if not money. I would not have paid them money in any case. House hunting in Singapore can be stressful but call the agents or owners directly. This saves us of such scams.

I had been active on the real estate portals & flat mate websites. I think they pick your information from these websites & come to hit with their scams.

I got mails from 3 people in one single day!

1. Ms. Heng with a story of new job in UK - CITY SQUARE RESIDENCES 14 KITCHENER LINK 207223 - [email protected]
2. Mr. Tan Tong Ne - father dead story - 14 Scotts Rd 228213 Singapore -Write an email [email protected]

3. Dr. Jennifer Larson - 6 Lewis Rd, Bukit timah Singapore 258591 - [email protected]

Thumb Rule should be :

If the Agent or Owner is not giving a proper sounding email or Phone number - Ignore such ads. Dont pay any thing to the agent - untill you are settled the deal with the Owner. Ask to speak to the owner & verify the owner's credentials with some source - like looking up at a government website etc. A geniune owner talks of contract etc almost immediately.

There have been instances of Agents - taking in advance rents from tenants promising a lesser rentals & then to vanish with the money. You can book them to police - but all this takes time & you may never get back the money & you are foreigner. Local know the tact of the place & they will not come to portals to get cheated.

You guys take care & do not waste time online, just take a local SG no & start calling. Meet Agents at MRT stations & ask them to take you or take clear routes to reach. Some times, however smart you are- you will not find the place. Use www.gothere.sg or onemaps.com or google maps to help your routes & calculate time for office & back.
