Room for Rent and other rental scams

Hello,

Thanks for the information! Everything looks good and I consider that as long as the rent is paid on time and you will take good care of the apartment, we will get along just fine!
Unfortunately, I do not have any friends or relatives in Wien who could assist you for a viewing. I was already in London when I decided to rent out the apartment. For this reason I would like to use Tripadvisor.com (https://www.tripadvisor.com/pages/payme ... neral.html) to close the agreement because last month I took 2 days off from work and went to Wien to show the apartment to a possible tenant and when I arrived there he called me and said that he found another apartment. I have lost my time and money for nothing. I would not do that again and that is why I have left a copy of the keys with Tripadvisor. They will send an agent and you will be able to visit the apartment in his presence. You will sign the contract with Tripadvisor in case you decide to rent my apartment. They will also handle the money and the documents so there are no risks involved on any side.
As I previously told you, the monthly rent is 540 EUR all costs included
The first month rent + the guarantee deposit is 1,620 EUR.
You can move in the day you visit the apartment or you can decide for a later date, which is more convenient for you.

Kind regards,
Parisi Immacolata"

"Hello,
It will be a normal contract and you will be officialy register with the address.
I will need your personal information (full name, date of birth, address and phone number, period of rent) so I can make the arrangements with Tripadvisor.
Tripadvisor will then send you the link with my apartment so you can book it for a period of 90 days which represent the first month of rent and deposit ( 1620 Eur ).
After that an invoice and further information regarding the rental will be send it to you.
Once you receive these details you will have to make the paymet into their bank account were will be locked until your decision.
Upon payment confirmation, Tripadvisor will arrange a visit to the apartment with you.
When visiting the apartment, you can sign the contract so I can receive the first month rent or, if by any reason you decide not to rent it, you will be fully refunded.
Kind regards,
PS: Please do not put me to list the apartment on Tripadvisor if you are not going to pay the first month of rent + deposit because i will be charged and also i will lose the other person interested to rent it. So be sure that you have the money to pay for it."

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram, pre-paid credit card or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union, MoneyGram or Bank payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

All the details such as names, addresses, pictures etc. that the scammer uses in order to back up his story, are stolen from elsewhere.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.
