I responded to an advertisement for an apartment in Amsterdam. The advert was on the Kamerhuren.nl website. It sounded dodgy so I started searching and found this forum. I found an almost identical letter posted on here (in the plural rather than the singular used below). Damn! Thought we had found a good place.
The other give away was that the photos of the inside of the rooms didn't match the photo of the outside of the building and pictures on google earth! Sloping walls and windows, when the building at that address doesn't have any sloping walls or windows from the outside!

Thanks for the mail and It a great pleasure that to you are interested
in my Apartment.located at Elandsgracht 76 in Amsterdam 1016TX.
Actually I resided in the Apartment with my family before and
presently we had packed due to my transfer from my work, I am an X-RAY
Engineering under Ship Building and presently been transfer to U.K, i
left Amsterdam with hope that i will be returning in a 2 Months time,
but right now the company have asked me to stay for 3 years under
contract with them in the U.K and presently my apartment is still
available for rent for 420 Euro's per month including the utilities,i
try to look for an agent that i can give my keys before i left but i
could not find and the one i find i could not reach an agreement and i
as well do not want my apartment to be used any how in my absence that
is why i took the Keys along with me.So right now all the apartment
keys and all Documents are with me here in U.K we got a Lawyer here in
UK, because we are new to this UK,so we really need to get a Lawyer
for Back-up, because we will be staying in right here for 1-3 Yrs.The
price is 420 Euro's per month,Security Deposit is 700 Euro's. am just
looking for responsible person to take care of my property.please am
looking for long/short term tenant that will stay in my Apartment, get
back to me on what else you want to know about the apartment and your
readiness to meet me .please i don't have much time now..I want you to
note that i am a kind and honest person and also i spent a lot on my
property that i want to give you for rent,so i will solicit for your
absolute maintenance of this Apartment and want you to treat it as if
it is your own.Get back to me to know if i can email you the Rent Form
for you to fill...The apartment is also available with the
following..The Apartment provides the following accommodation:bed,
armchairs, set of shelves, LCD TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi, wardrobe.
Table/bar and spacious fully equipped open kitchen with
refrigerator/freezer, cooker with cooker hood, microwave/stove and
washing machine. All electrical appliances (coffee machine, toaster,
kettle), crockery and other kitchen utensils are provided.
Bathroom with washbasin, shower and toilet.
TV – Internet high speed WiFi – Phone: available
Also like to know your terms of rent..
