Thanks for the warning!

I replied to an ad on gumtree this morning 1st Nov 2010.

Email address:[email protected]

This time in Guildford, knew it was too good to be true. You think they would adjust the rent to suit the area.
They are using the same ad and price everywhere it seems. £85 pw and £450 up front.

A badly typed/worded email is always a tip off that english isn't the scammers first language. But Joy Greg is a believable alias.

Good job I googled the name out of curiousity, thanks again for the warning, i'll keep looking!

Hi I've just googled Joy Greg after emailing them about a flat in Birmingham city centre. I thought it sounded too good to be true (location, price, quality) and then alarm bells sounded when "she" said they lived in Ireland, wanted me to transfer money, had poor English and wasn't really answering my direct questions about the flat. The emails I received were almost word for word the same as what has been posted on here. Joy Greg is still using [email protected] and confusingly gave a mobile number with +44 at the front despite saying they were in Ireland at the moment?! Didn't try calling it.

I'm so angry they've got my hopes up, I just want my first home with my boyfriend and now I'm going to stick with Agencies I think! Thank God for this website!

Welcome to Scamwarners.com PurpleAmy.

I am pleased to learn that the site has been of some use to you.

I have no doubt that the phone number that you have mentioned start '+44(0)70' ---- the numbers in this range are simply UK Lookalike numbers that can be diverted to almost anywhere in the world. with calls charged at premium rates to the caller.

All what i request of you is to transfer the deposit to someone close to you through Western union money transfer agent, once you've done that, you get back to me with a scan copy of the transfer receipt so that i can forward it to my lawyer to confirm if the transfer is valid.

After the confirmation might have been made by my lawyer, i will ask you to tell you friend to pick up the money and schedule a convenient day for the viewing. If eventually you don't want to proceed with the rent, i promise to return the cost of the transfer without any deduction. Western union is a money transfer in a minute and the fastest way to send money. Here is the procedure stated below:

1.Locate the nearest Western union outlet around you.
2.Pick up the form of transfer and fill in the details which needs to be filled and return back to the post master.Details needed on the form are {sender name;your name and address.}{receiver name and address}
3. Return back to the post master with the cash you are transferring to your partner or friend and wait for the receipt to be returned back to you.
4. Scan the receipt to me so that i can forward it to my lawyer to check it if its truly genuine and available in your friend's custody.
5. After it has been confirmed valid, i will send you an email so that you can inform the receiver to go an pick up the money and thereafter, you'll schedule a convenient time for the viewing.

I look forward to reading from you soon.
Regards
Mr/Mrs Greg
