Room for Rent and other rental scams

Please beware of this website below:

There are black South Africans posing as white real estate/letting accommodation experts all over the Internet. They are constantly posting adverts on sites like Gumtree. Someone posted something regarding the website link above and upon reviewing it, I realized that it's the same people who almost scammed me.

These scammers go around developing a bunch of fake holiday accommodation websites. They don't quit even when some of their websites are shut down by sites like Scam Warners.

They always post beautiful pictures of "their flats" with great prices to trap innocent victims. I believe they've been doing a great job in scamming foreigners traveling to London - that's for sure. I can only imagine how much money they're raking in.

Here's a sample email they sent me when I enquired about a flat they were advertising on Gumtree concerning a Hyde Park flat. Notice their fake names. They like using surnames like Buckingham, Livingstone, Mills, and so forth.

Another way to know when you've stumbled upon a fake accommodation website is by the amount of grammar and spelling mistakes.

Go and put on your teacher glasses and you'll see that they're obviously not native English speakers.

But tell me something:
If these scammer provide their bank details does it not mean that by filing a complain with the Met police in London they could easily be traced?

The Police can only act if a crime has been committed and only if the victim of the crime makes a report. So, if you haven't lost money and you make a report, it will go nowhere, other than 'file 13' (the bin).
