Subject: Re: App. for rent on domain.com.au

Hello,

Thank you for your interest. The apartment is still available but now I'm in United Kingdom with my job. I will stay here for 3 years so this is the reason why I want to rent the apartment. I'm the owner of the apartment and it looks exactly like in the pictures. The rent for the whole apartment is $800/month including all utilities (water, electricity, internet, cable, parking). You can move in the apt in the same day you receive the keys. Obviously we need a way to complete this deal that will allow us to make sure we receive what we are after. I have found a way for us to complete the deal safe and fast. In this way you will receive the Keys in less than 2 days, if you move fast as well. The solution is provided by a company called MoneyBookers which will protect both interests, my package and your money.
Through this way you will see the apartment and decide if you will stay or not before I receive my payment. Please click on the link bellow to the MoneyBookers website to see how we can complete the deal safely and fast directly from the website of the company where the procedure is explained:

Like I said, I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the Keys and the contract signed by me right away.I will explain to you step by step how this works .
1) First you will have to send me your full name and address. I will need them for the shipping.
2) I go to the MoneyBookers agency and leave the Keys and the contract onto your name as the intended receiver.
3) MoneyBookers will check the envelope to see if everything is OK with it and also the legal papers that will come along with the Keys.
4) MoneyBookers will send you a delivery notification to let you know they have the Keys and the papers in their custody.
5) At this point you will have to go to a Western Union Agent Location and make a money deposit on the MoneyBookers payment agent name for the amount we agreed (first 3 months + the $1000 bond)
6) After you make the deposit you will have to send the info about the money deposit to MoneyBookers (MTCN, sender's name and address)
7) MoneyBookers will verify the payment information and if everything is in order they will deliver the Keys and the contract to you .
8) After you receive the package, you will go and check the apt and in 2 days you must contact them and tell them if you keep the apt or not, if all is in order you will instruct MoneyBookers to send me the information about the money deposit and I will be able to receive the funds. If you don`t like the apt they will send your money back to you and you will send them the keys and the contract to them.
I will pay MoneyBookers for the shipping and you will pay Western Union for the Money Transfer fee .
Let me know if we can do this.

Thank you,
Anne

Let me know if you are interested please because I really need to take care of this matter by the end of the next week.

Regards,
Anne

This person asks for a deposit payment via MoneyBookers with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union payment to a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Oh and to the others reading this/finding for rental property, don't get fooled by their "there are 2 other people interested so please send me your full name and address ASAP". Knew there was something fishy to all this, and when I asked whether I could view the property first, they replied "this is not possible". Beware people!!!

They do that for the same reasons salespeople do it--they want you to be pressured. Their goal is to (a) make it look more valuable because other people want it, and (b) get you so worried that you will miss out on a really good deal that you rush to payment before really thinking about the things that don't make sense.
