Room for Rent and other rental scams

Does anyone know if this website is legitimate? I'm trying to make a reservation for a short term flat in London and the website does not provide much information. I've tried calling the number on the website but my calls don't seem to go through. The email responses I get appear a bit unprofessional with typos and they don't sign with a name, rather they are left anonymous. The website lists the actual addresses of the apartments, but I"m in the states and am unable to view the apartments myself. If anyone has any information on whether or not this is legitimate that would be great! :)

Welcome Akim,

I split this into a new topic so it would be more visible. Can you recheck the name? I cut and pasted from your original post, but a quick search shows that it is not a registered domain name.

Looking for a London vacation rental on Craigslist right now means venturing into an insanely toxic soup of scammers. Go to TripAdvisor.com and talk to folks there about safer alternatives.

If the domain you are asking about is the one QE posted, then I can verify it's a scam. I reported the website a few hours ago and should be offline soon :)

This is most definitely a SCAM website. I know the properties as I work for one of them and we've had this happen before via 'Craiglist'. The doman is a subdomain which you can tell by the fact that it doesn't start with 'www.' That should create alarm bells.

Their payment account is one of these shared Tuxedo type accounts where they 'rent' an area and the reference number all bookings must quote is their account reference number.

We have had people actually turning up for apartments at the property saying they've booked. Its very sad, but anyone that thinks they can get an apartment with service in Central London for less than around £1,000 a week are barking mad. You couldn't even get into a youth hostel for what they are charging.

You get what you pay for guys, and there is no such thing as a bargain in real estate.

Always, always search for apartments you are interested on the internet, as if they are genuine they will have many many listings.

I want to post a small correction here - it makes no difference in legitimacy whether a site starts with www or http. In fact, there is no difference at all. If you compare the following two:

http://citybestbookingflat.page.tl/Bayswater.htm
http://www.citybestbookingflat.page.tl/Bayswater.htm

you'll notice that it is just the same site. It's just a different notation.

You are correct that it is a subdomain as it doesn't end on .com or .net, but on .page.tl
It is also correct that a free subdomain doesn't show a lot of professionalism and long-term plans and is a pointer to a scam (but not definate proof).

This also certainly does not mean that all .com, .net, .org etc are real.
