Thanks for your interest in my property. I am looking for a responsible & clean tenant that will be able to take good care of my apartment because I'm an
adventurer who travel around the globe to search for new discovery with my
colleague in different location. I also have another property in Germany but the government took over the whole territory. But right now I'm presently in United Kingdom doing some research which may take a couple of years or more. But I'm not returning home from here, still heading to other neighborhood country..
Reason why I want to rent out the property is to look for a very good tenant who can take good care of the property with a promise to do so. My family
traveled to Cyprus with my kids where my father owns a company due to my absence in the country and they are not returning back until my kids finished their University studies. I want to know if you can take good care of the place very well and how many

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Yes, here in Toronto, this scammer is also trying to con renters on Craigslist.ca. His post says:

RENTERS BEWARE OF THIS CONMAN - SCAM ARTIST !!!

Yes, David Martin did use the same email address.
I've had 2 others trying the same SCAM.
They're everywhere it seems !!!

I notice that in the original mail the scammer says that he's in the UK and then gives a Canadian postal address and a later contributor says he's posting scams in Canada. It probably indicates that the scammer is posting his fake ads so widely that he's losing track of what country he's supposed to be living in.

One scammer can post hundreds of ads in a day and there are more than a hundred doing it, so you can imagine how many fake ads fill the internet, and they're looking for fresher and more obscure places to put them.

Unless a person knows what to look for in private ads to detect a fake, it's just not safe to look for rentals online. Scammers get trained before they go online - victims don't.

Great advice. I'm certainly not a pro and at first glance, it almost lured me into believing these scam messages.

Hope some other people will read these posts and become more aware of these creeps.
