Room for Rent and other rental scams

This name has been so commonly used in association with apartment rental and sale of electronics scams it's worth making a special note that anyone using that name in trying to make a deal should be treated with extreme caution, especially as they use bank accounts in that name to receive scam funds.

I could mention company names and phone numbers they also use, but those details change over time. Because they have access to accounts in that name, that's the one detail that remains constant.

Currently it's used in association with the name of a company that doesn't exist - Vacation Rentals Limited.

As an observation - if you make contact with this person you could speak to a natural English speaker, an Asian or someone of Nigerian origin. It's clearly a corporate effort and identities are being shared among the gang.

Though some members may be located and operating outside the UK, I have no doubt that it is organised from within the UK. They also have a selection of bank accounts that they use to launder stolen funds (at the moment) and they cycle their use to attempt to preserve them.

A favoured trick is for them to attempt to route money on to pre-paid cards, and no one should ever make a payment to anyone that way. I'll endeavour to post a list of account numbers that should never be used to make payment by anyone. It needs to be done as the gang make every effort to hide what they're doing, but each card has the same account number for every card holder, so it's easy to stamp on that practice for any potential victim who Googles.
