This person asks for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment either to him, your friend or a family member.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, this person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or Moneygram with the promise that they will send the keys through a courier company.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Thanks for your reply...I would have loved schedule the viewing without hesitation; however, you will need to make a 600 pounds refundable reservation deposit to yourself in order to secure the apartment. This is because we Landlords are facing some problems with tenants who come to view the apartment and take something out of the room. We have thus informed our local council about this and the council advised us Landlords to inform any tenant/s who want to come and view the premises, of this requirement to make the transaction via western union in their own name.

This transaction can be made via western union in your own name; alternatively, you can have any of your relatives send it to your name as proof of your capability to take good care of my property and to pay the rent as it falls due. Some tenants do have cash problems on entering the flat. I did not ask you to send or pay any money to me before viewing the room thus the reason why you have to proof your capability to pay my room rent regularly. I will then show this proof to my local area council in order to be issued with a paper in your name to bring along with you when you come to view the room or moving in. After you get this paper, you can go and pick the money back, then pay my rent in cash. This is a new policy from our local council as there are some tenants who came to view my apartment and took some things in my room as they did not proof to me that they do needed the apartment. Let any of your relatives make the transaction to your name then after I get the paper that you will bring along with you to view the apartment, you can go and pick the money back then move into the room.

Kindly proof to me that you are capable of my room so I can prepare your reservation and secure the room for you...hope to hear from you soon,
Thanks,
Hagler Paul
