Room for Rent and other rental scams

Thanks for the email. How are you doing today? Hope great. It has been
a hard time for me and my husband trying to get a nice, honest and
responsible person for this our lovely apartment due to the accident I
had, the accident which almost destroyed most part of my body
especially my legs and my spine, but I thank God today that I am still
alive and can least walk again...but I can't talk very well again, the
best way I can communicate is through writing but I believe with God
all things are possible, I have the faith in him that I will be healed
perfectly it is just a matter of time.

The 2 bedroom apartment for rent is still very much available,
initially we wanted to sell the apartment but my husband later changed
his mind and decided that we rent the apartment out instead of selling
it. My husband, Rev. William Reagan is the rightful owner of the
apartment and my husband is presently in west Africa for a missionary
work, to care to for the less privileged children, orphans, the
physically challenged and to teach them about God and make them have
hope about life this will take him about 3 years before he will return
back to New York.

I am currently in the UK with my mother who assists me in carrying out
most activities due to my present condition. The keys and documents of
the apartment
are with my husband and he will them to you via FedEx Express Courier service.

The apartment is a private place and it is not handled by any agent
due to the last experience we had with one. We will be glad to rent
our apartment to you if only you will agree to take very good care of
the apartment for us, which is the most important thing to us cos in
the past we've had a horrible experience in renting and we don't wish
to experience it again, so if you are really willing to rent from us
you will have to deal with us directly, I believe God has a way of
working out things if we put our trust in him.

Monthly Rent: $900(Utilities included in the rent)
Security Deposit: $600
Pet are allowed.

Address: 1791 Shipley Avenue, Valley Stream NY 11580

Below is the rent application form, fill it out if you are willing to
rent from us.

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the email. I am so excited to read back from
you. I forwarded your email to my husband and we have decided to
accept you as our new tenant.

I must say that my husband and I are so excited that we have
found such a young and responsible person like you to over our
apartment, I want you to understand that all we want is the for a
responsible person that will take very good care of our apartment for
us in our absence and since you have promised to take very good care
of the place we see no reason not to allow you rent our apartment.

My husband will call you later today to finalize everything.

Kindly email me back with the confirmation of the address where you
want the keys and documents of the apartment to be shipped to.

I will forward the information that you need in making the payment of
the security deposit to my husband as soon as I get the confirmation
of the address from you.

I wait to read back from you asap.

My regards and God bless you.

Nadine Reagan.

Hello TINEO414

It certainly sounds like that you are dealing with a scammer.

The keys that you have mentioned do not exist - he only wants you to send money in order that they can he can pretend that they will be couriered to you.

I am going to guess that he will ask you for payment by Western Union or Moneygram. Western Union and MoneyGram transactions are intended only for transactions between yourself and people you know and trust. The transaction details should never be disclosed to a third party.

Despite what a scammer might tell you, Western Union and MoneyGram Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with a minimum of identification, or even none at all. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected.

Well bad for me my husband already sent $600.00 and I am actually in contact with this person who is currently in Nigeria, I am making this post and he called me and told me not to worry that they keys are being sent. I have read and understand you have been through the same thing but I would like to try to get more information from him as possible. What is different from your story is that he actually calls me and my husband at least 4 or 5 times. After reading your post i have lost hope and am really fustrated. I found your post by putting his phone number in the address search bar. I aslo have a next email from another person in my email with the same story. Just to ask, if you could tell me how long ago this happen to you? I drove by the house and saw it was vacant. Did you ever take the drive?

I'm sorry TINEO414, but from the phrases and expressions used, it's guaranteed that the money's gone to a scammer and it's the standard scam scenario they have written on the internet cafe wall and this is how the 'whipper snappers' earn money rather than go to school.

Most of the scammer aren't so good at English, so they copy the ads from elsewhere, which is why it probably is up for rent. I've said it in other threads, but if you find a bargain on a free ad site, it's more than likely a scam. Many of the major sites can consist of up to and over 90% scams, and they're now flooding less obvious sites with scam ads.

Take a look here

http://london.craigslist.co.uk/vac/

Any mention of the word 'Nigeria' is a red flag, and used in combination with the words 'Western Union' should make you walk away. Scammers are very persistent and will not hesitate to call as what you send them is pure profit.

As Michelle says - never ever pay a stranger by Western Union. If a property owner doesn't have a bank account in the country where the apartment is, then they don't have an apartment.

Non-EU citizens should go here to find out about obtaining a visa to work as an au pair in the UK

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer
