This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.
Sounds safe. It's not!
At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a friend or family member.
In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.
If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Hi,
It is nice reading back from you. I really appreciate your interest in my room. Little information about me, I am an Australian, I love meeting people from different part of the world. I am so friendly and easy going lady.
I just travelled to Birmingham in United Kingdom for a research, so not to keep the flat empty my lawyer advised me to rent out just two rooms as i will be back soon to continue my job. So i want to rent out these rooms to reliable and trustworthy individuals, so that i can pay more attention to the research. I spend most of my free time at home in Australia. So i would like you to meet my lawyer face to face at his law firm in Adelaide. But my spare key is deposited at the FedEx office, so that any interested individual can easily get the spare key rather than traveling to Adelaide. We might not know each other but i believe you are not a bad person.
Thank you once again for your interest. Get back to me soon.
I hope to read from you soon.
Best regards,
Ann
Hi,
It's a great pleasure reading from you again. I'm so glad to realize that you are a very reliable and straight forward person, as you can't travel to meet my lawyer, then i would like you to assure me that you will keep my flat clean and neat. I will prepare a Tenancy Agreement Lease and i will get back to you with the 12 digits reference number which you will provide to the FedEx staff to pick up the key box.
My lawyer will need your following details to prepare the Tenancy Lease, so that you can know the terms and conditions of living in my apartment by making 600 AUD per month which includes all utilities bill plus refundable Bond of 600 AUD as advance payment for the room. Please provide your following details,
Full Name:
Present Address:
Sex:
Age:
Occupation:
Contact Number:
Move In Date:
As soon as you provide this, we will need to proceed with the next step of the documentation by making your rent payment. I know well that we will really enjoy each others company in the flat. Thank you for your interest and effort.
I hope to read from you soon.
Best regards,
Ann
