This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

We would offer a long term and short term rental anytime you wish to leave the apartment will be grateful and we are ready to rent for as long as you want. Note that you will not be allowed to view inside the apartment until everything is being finalize as the keys/document are with me in Florida, USA.You can only view the apartment from the outside. I just received this same email, actually both of these emails today! I found a listing on Craigslist of an apartment, and it seemed too good to be true, and it definitely was! Thank you for posting this for others to see and look out for, you saved me a ton of future trouble!!

Oh my god!! I'm glad I found this post before I really do something stupid. Exactly like the Hewilk104, I found this ad and looked so convincing, I even google map the address and it comes out to be a condominium called Candevish, so I got more convinced! Don't really make it a big deal when this James Anderson guy told me to email his wife, so I emailed this Mrs. Anderson to actually meet somewhere in downtown DC, and when she said she's in Florida so she can't meet, my intuition started to say something is so fishy.

Thank god I stopped by the craiglist scam page on that website, and funny how I typed "James Anderson west africa crusade" on google search box and I found this website! OH MY GOD, the email, exactly, the same words!!
