This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. However, if you are ready to rent the apartment now, that will not be a problem but we will advice you due to a responsible and reliable person like you. Once again, we are giving you this on trust and do not disappoint us and we promise you that you will love the apartment and the rent is $700 per month and security deposit is $700 so a refundable deposit of One Month rent($700) and security deposit of $700 will be needed from you before move in so as to secure the apartment for you as there other applicants intending to make full payment and move in immediately but i will be considering you as you were he first in line to inquire about the apartment ...........also we would like to send the following document to you via DHL COURIER SERVICE to the address you provided to me in the application form and the tracking number will be sent to you so that you can possible occupy our apartment immediately.

Here are the contents of the packages that will be deliver to you via DHL COURIER SERVICE.

All utilities had be paid for,so $1,400 is the total move-in cost and it will be needed for us to send the keys and the lease to the address you provide to us, the lease is for 4years but you can stay for as long as you wish to so far the monthly rent is being paid at the appropriate time. We are willing to rent to you for a long term and once again we need a good tenant that can take very good care of the apartment while we are away and use it as if it were your own, we want to rest assured on this can you make a promise to me again that you won't let us down on this property. There is also a storage room. We would also need to send you a letter of authorization before you can gain full access to the unit just for security reasons since we are not available. We will be going to the DHL office to verify how much it will cost to send the keys and paper works to you. Please we are trusting you in renting out our home to you, we would need you to trust me so that we can work hand in hand in making these a success . . We want you to know that this is legitimate..We have invested thousands of dollars into the apartment and $1,400 is not the isue.. We just have to be carefully this days because i once sent the keys to someone when i was away then for a conference in Georgia,USA and they stole all my belongings so that is why i dont want to do that anymore, and i swear to almighty God that if you send the deposit you will surely get the keys and the documents unfailingly so that you can view the interior and move in, you sound skeptical from your last email, and thats very wrong, if you are thinking that I just wanted to take your money for nothing. When I know how people worked and earn their money, I will never think of taking some advantages over you and your money, please take that out of your mind, that is really awful thing on earth that I will never think about doing. Please understand me better, I was not trying to lure you into this, everything about me is 100% real ok,i am a man of God, i would never tarnish my name and image all because of money, i wouldn't do such a thing when i have blood running through my vain, i know it's hardly to trust man in the cloth again but i will like you to know that fingers are not equal and as i stated for you in previous email that i am Good christian and i fear God in everything i do, he his the greatest and the bible says whosoever try to cheat or deceive human being like him/her, the person will be perish in the lake of fire. So we would mail out the keys and the document to you as soon as you make the payment. With your age we know she would be able to take good care of our house well for us. I am really assuring you because i want a very good and caring person who could look after our property for me and i believe have gotten you as my new tenant which have put all my trust on and i want you to also trust me by believing my words.I am a True Man of God, and if you don't get get the keys and the document your money will be refunded back to you, but i don't pray such thing will ever happen ) pls again take care of my house for me ..... The reason why the rent is so cheap is just for us to rent out the apartment as soon as possible without delay and since we are not in the country due to our missionary work.
