Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for your reply. I really appreciate you took the time to answer me. I am the owner of the apartment located in 134 Aberdeen St, Northbridge WA 6003, Australia. It is still available for rent for $250 p/w including utilities for as long as you need. The apartment is in the best conditions, it is newly furnished and equipped with all the dependencies. I bought the apartment in 2007 and I lived there with my pet until last month when I received a promotion and needed to move to Milan / Italy.

In the apartment you will find a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a freezer, a washing machine, a dryer, an iron, , an oven, a toaster, a coffee maker, vacuum cleaner, a big screen TV, cable TV with the basic access, ADSL internet and Wi-Fi access. Also the apartment is near the public transportation, a shopping mall, a gym, and other facilities. There are no problems if you have any pets, as long as you clean up after them. The apartment has a parking space for one car. I have spent a great amount of money refurnishing the apartment and my request is that you treat it like it was your own. I am not interested to make a lot of money from the rent as I am interested to find a tenant that will take good care of the property until my return(the minimum lease period is 3 months).

My contract here in Italy expires in October 2014.

Because I had to move to Italy so soon I didn't had the time to find a trustworthy agent, I had to take the apartment keys with me. I had a real bad experience with the renting agents from the area with my previous home. I can't come to show you the apartment and I don't have any friends in the area to send the keys. I have found a way for us to complete the deal fast (2 days) and easy. The solution is a worldwide delivery company called TNT ( http://www.tnt.com/ ), with them you will be able to check the apartment before I receive the payment.

Let me know how this sounds to you.

Looking forward to your answer. I have attached the pics in this email.

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Hello,

I have just been contacted Via facebook regarding an apparent apartment I have put up for rent on Gumtree.com.au?!

Once I googled my name and gumtree this came up!!!!

I am a Property Manager and recently posted an Ad on Gumtree regarding services I could offer around Sydney part-time as I'm a new mum and was contacted by a John Alps who wanted me to list some ad's on gumtree for him and he sent me through the ad's to list and I looked at them and realised they were fraudulent and I removed the Ad I had listed as soon as I realised (was up maybe 5 minutes).

But now there is this!! Is there anything I can do! this was about a month ago so I am sure there is no coincidence that this has happened.

p.s this is not my email address though?

Thanks for any help

Welcome to ScamWarners. Schapman. I am sorry this has happened to you. Scammers will use any means they can to look legitimate. This includes taking the pictures of real people (often soldiers), real adverts and twisting them into a scam, and what has happened to you.

We do encourage everyone to warn those they know about scams. I hope you spend a little time looking around our site to increase your awareness.

I got the same email.

I did provide a copy of my passport but not money as I had already indictated I would not send any money unless I am provided with proof of ownership of that property.

However, I was stupid enough to provide a copy of my passport to the scammer. Hope he cant do much with my passoport copy.
