found the add on gumtree.com and contacted them through their website.
could you please tell me if this is a scam (generally speaking, is everyone who asks for money in advance is a scammer?):

Our Flat is £550 / week. ( 2 Bedroom Flat )
The cost per night is £78 a night, so for 8 nights the total is £624
This includes all utilities. There is a fully equipped kitchen. We
supply all
linens, and there is Customer parking space. There is high speed
wireless internet for your convenience.
If you are interested we take 30% of the booking fee and refundable
£250
security deposit to confirm your booking and the rest of the balance
on your
arrival Or you may pay in full at the time of the booking which is
£624 + £250 security deposit is £874 . The amount of 30% would be £187
+ £250 security deposit is £437.
The easiest way of paying this is via online bank transfer however if
this is a problem do contact me. Where are you travelling from ?

I'm short on time, so I'm sure someone else will come along and do a little more checking--but in general I would be very concerned about a website that has only existed for 3 weeks and hid their registration details.

Yes, it is a spam for sure, they dont arrange a visit , and your money wont be protected when transfered online!

They say

Set in the heart of the prestigious and sought after Knightsbridge area, the apartment offers an excellent London base for any visitor

They copied this text from a genuine company, Viva Street, here:
