Rental Scam - Curtis Wood Fowler

I have been asked to post this here for someone who contacted me regarding this scam.

Scammer posts ads on Craigslist for appartments for rent at attractive prices in various cities around the world. He tells interested parties that he is overseas (missionar work in Nigeria in my case) and will send the keys after receiving a security deposit by Western Union.
I enticed him (without having paid anything!) into giving his name and address, for me to arrange DHL to collect the keys from him and send them to me at my cost, so there is a certain chance that the following contact details are real. He also called me twice from the number given.

This guy Curtis Wood Fowler is At the moment tryng to Rent me a property in Sydney Australia and this is how thing are going.
He post the add in Gumtree.com.au for a 1 bedroom apartment in the City ( Sydney ) for $250.00 AUD wish is extremly good for the pics they advertize plus is in the city. he's using a difrent e-mail address but what im suprise is the he still use he's name and same history.... I wonder there's no one the can do something about this ??? humm.. o well this is how things happen.

To answer this question, scammers operate from internet cafes usually (but certainly not always) from countries where our police have no jurisdiction, the names they use are as fake as the promises they make.

For an arrest to occur, quite a few things need to happen;
Firstly, there needs to be a scam victim who has made a complaint
Then we need the police to have jurisdiction in the location of the scammer
and to top that off, the scammer has to actually be caught in the act.

To make things even more difficult, the countries where these scam originate have many problems with corruption, all a scammer needs to do to hide from the law is to create a new email address.

On a related note, we actually prefer that scammers dont change their details, as we list their details like we have here, people may do a search as you have and find the information posted, if the scammer was to change their scamming details more regularly there would be many more victims and our postings would be less effective. Another prime reason for not reporting their email address

This guy is still at it. He had me going about a rental in Chesapeake, Va. He said he was on a missionary trip to W. Africa, and used words like kind, and trust, and dear. Watch out!

I, too, was attracted a VERY similiar scam! If you read the following string of emails from this "husband" and "disabled wife" duo, you will see the familiarity. After I refused to send any money with out a contract or seeing the unit, they called me four different times and even sent me a poorly photoshoped documents "proving" their ownership.
