This person asks for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment either to him, your friend or a family member.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, this person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or Moneygram with the promise that they will send the keys through a courier company.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

this risk coming down to show a tenant my apartment when i arrive he
said his no longer interested after i wasted my time money this the
part of reason why i dont make that such mistake anymore.....

i can only come down to show you my apartment and we sign the contract
and i will hand over the keys to you....

1) Transfer the amount 1100euro (1 month rent and security deposit) to
any of your family members (wife, dad, mum, siblings) or your friend.


Your Name (as Sender) to any of your family members (wife, dad,
mum,siblings) or your friend (as Receiver) in London or other parts of
UK.


2) Scan & Send a copy of the Western Union transaction receipt as a
proof of the transaction or mail me the transaction details. (The
money is safe as it is only you that can withdraw since you need a
national ID card or International passport)


3) Then, we will meet for viewing.


4) If you decide to take the flat, we will go to any local Western
Union Money Transfer office for you to pick up the money and pay
me.(You don't need to come with cash to view, after viewing we will go
together, you will cancel the transfer and withdraw the money to pay
me).

5) Keys will be handed over to you after signing the contracts.


I am pretty sure that the transaction at Western Union office will
require some charges, i will definitely refund the transaction charges
back to you upon viewing and if you don't see what i sent as pictures
of my flat to you, you are free to leave without paying me anything.

The senders address:your address

Receivers name:name of your friends name in your country
Receivers address:United kingdom

The receivers name must be United kingdom so that i can comfirm here
that truly the payment has been made.As soon as you made the payment
like that you will get back to me with the scan copy of the payment
receipt from western union so that i can be able to confirm here that
truly the payment has been made out.As soon as i confirm that, i will
post my keys to you immediately and you will check the apartment
yourself and if you okay with the condition of the apartment, we will
then proceed with the contract and after the contract, you will go
back to western union to have the receivers name change to my name and
if you are not interested in renting my apartment you can easily go
back to western union to have your money back.

This is very simple and am sure it will safe and secure both parties.

I totally support your warning regarding Anthony Kelly Newton <[email protected]>, as I have received the same mails as you did from him. I was looking for a place to rent in Brussels on expatriates.com, but I have noticed that his post disappeared from one day to another so I became suspicious.
Thank you for posting your experience with him, you saved me some money and valuable time!

I confirm this man is a cheater. Beware of him. I have received exactly the same type of mail exchange while searching a flat to rent in Brussels on 2 August 2011. Just in time I cancelled bank transfer which he wanted me to make to his lawyer's account to the USA. Again beware of him!!!!

You have already helped a great deal by posting his banking details. Any victim doing a Google search for them will find your post and stay clear - and another scammer is thwarted!

Unfortunately, scammers almost always operate out of an internet café somewhere in Africa or Malaysia, and it is nearly impossible to prosecute them from overseas. The only way to slow them down is public awareness. You might consider talking to friends and family about internet scams and encouraging them to come here if they need advice or just to browse through our topics to get a general idea how various scams work.

However I answered for this advertisement. After my answer this post disappeared

At that time I was already careful, but i thought it could not hurt if he would send me his contract... it arrived today morning, 12 hours after I first wrote him!
