Hello
I am planning to move to Perth very soon and am looking for somewhere to live. I am in contact with a landlady about the possibility of a room-share apartment with her, found on easyroommate dot com.
1. She is currently overseas with work (Philippines)
2. She will not be there when we move in, but says we can move in without her
3. She is asking us to send a AU$600 deposit to her lawyers bank account because hers is 'difficult to access'. We searched for the lawyers name, but no results were found
4. She sent her passport ID scan to us, but her name is different to her email account name
5. After the deposit is paid, she will give us a code to collect the keys from DHL at Perth Airport
6. When we first inquired about the room, the landlady was a 'Premium Account' holder on the website. However, since then, the messages we received from her now say her account has 'been blocked for your safety'. The room is still searchable, and she has created a new, 'standard account' with the same name.
This is our first time renting a property in a foreign country, and we are unsure how to recognise a scam. Any thoughts??
