This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

I am in United Arab Emirate(Dubai) for a working Holiday,.....However you can still move in while am still away, because i deposited the Spare Keys of the apartment with the TNT Express? Office in Melbourne so if you really want to move in I will send you the Deposit Key Number that you will present at the TNT Express? Office so as to get the spare keys that I deposited with them or better still I can send the Keys, directly to your present address.

Once again i received your signed copies of the Tenancy Lease agreement and am so glad about that.
Right now I will advice you guy to make payment for the first 1month and the Refundable security deposit (bond),so that I will be rest assure that you guys really want to rent the room and I will send you guys the Keys directly to your present address or better still I will send you guys the Deposit Key number and the TNT Express? Office Address so that you guys can go there and pick up the Keys upon arrival and move in once.

How are you doing today,am so sorry for the delay that its take this time before i write you this email...after much discussion and fight which i have with my lawyer we agree on you as a new tenant to pay just 1 month ($600) extra instead of the initial 2 months.
About the payment i will advise you make the payment directly to me not into my lawyers account this time.

Once again i got the details of the payment you guys made, But at the moment there is an issue on ground, My Lawyer Insist on not releasing the Keys to you guys, He said that the New Standard payment to secure a room as a New Tenant is 3 month rent plus the security deposit (bond) he said you have to come up with 2 month rent more of ($1280)
So right now I will like you guys to make payment for 2 month more of ($1280 rent) which will make it 3 month Plus the refundable security deposit so the next payment you will be making will be by May ending okay. use the same details for the transfer and send me the details asap okay, I have attach the copies receipts of payment to this email.
The room is fully booked and reserved for you guys, I am waiting to read from you guys soon. mind you we will have a cup of coffee on my arrival okay.

Welcome to ScamWarners . I am sorry you sere scammed for so much money. Sadly, there is not much the police can do because scammers hide behind anonymous email addresses. They have no suspect to go after.

What you can do is what you have done, expose the scammer so others do not fall victim to this scammer.

I hope you have cut off all contact with the scammer. He will only try to keep getting money out of you.
Also beware that some scammers pretend they can get your money back for you. They will want you to send money to "accomplish" the task. It is also a scam and will only cost you some more money.

If you have questions please ask them and we will work get you answers.
