Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for your reply. I really appreciate you took the time to answer me. I am the owner of the apartment(2beds & 2baths) located in 2 Campbell Street, Toowong, Qld 4066, Australia. It is still available for rent for $200 p/w(fully renatal) including utilities for as long as you need. The apartment is in the best conditions, it is newly furnished and equipped with all the dependencies. I bought the apartment in 2007 and I lived there with my pet until last month when I received a promotion and needed to move to London/United Kingdom.

In the apartment you will find a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a freezer, a washing machine, a dryer, an iron, , an oven, a toaster, a coffee maker, vacuum cleaner, a big screen TV, cable TV with the basic access, ADSL internet and Wi-Fi access. Also the apartment is near the public transportation, a shopping mall, a gym, and other facilities. There are no problems if you have any pets, as long as you clean up after them. The apartment has a parking space for one car. I have spent a great amount of money refurnishing the apartment and my request is that you treat it like it was your own. I am not interested to make a lot of money from the rent as I am interested to find a tenant that will take good care of the property until my return(the minimum lease period is 3 months).

My contract here in London expires in October 2014.

I have found a way for us to complete the deal fast (2 days) and easy. The solution is a worldwide delivery company called TNT ( http://www.tnt.com/ ) with them you will be able to check the apartment before I receive the payment. The keys are with me in London.
Let me know how this sounds to you.

Looking forward to your answer.

Thank you!

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

I will explain you in few steps how this transaction should be made through TNT for both protection.
You should pay first 1 month rent + Security deposit so the total amount will be $1600.
You will have to send me your details (your full name and address) so I can fill out the lease
agreement and start the transaction.I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the Keys and the contract signed by me right away.
I will send you the signed lease agreement and the apartment keys through TNT. They will send you a notification ( by email ) that they have received the keys and the lease contract. Next you will have to send the 1st month payment and the bond to the TNT agent, after the payment is sent you have to send the details to TNT in order to release the keys and the lease contract. You will checkout the apartment and if you like it you have to instruct TNT to release the payment to me. If you don't like it you return the keys and the unsigned lease to the TNT agent and he will refund the cash you deposited.
I have attached a copy of my passport and birth certificate.
I am hoping that this is ok with you and we can close the deal.

Was very skeptical...deal was too good to be true! Plus the property was removed from the rental website only after 24 hours. Also TNT don't offer the service he was suggesting.

Thanks for posting this scam warners!

I very nearly was scammed by this poor excuse for a human being too.

This time it was for the property 403/29 Shelley Street, Sydney NSW 2000

Its amazing as it was posted on realestate.com.au so whatever he's done he's paid the listing rate and there were multiple listings posted under the (probably bogus) agent that was claiming to be hosting the property.

Thankfully I didn't part with any money. I already caught him out when I questioned how the bond would be kept as I wasn't prepared for it to not be held by the Rental Board but when I got the TNT email talking about money transfer via Western Union then it was bleedingly obvious.

The issue I have is that applying online through sites like realestate.com.au it collects every bit of information about you. Employment history, rental history, etc then it requires you to post 100 points of ID ... so now I have a very real threat of identity theft.

The prooperty sites should have a scam control flag at the point of uploading ID to ensure users are fully aware of the risks involved with online applications. I wish this had happened for me BEFORE uploading 100 points of ID. Now I've got to go and change everything and watch my credit rating doesn't get touched by someone trying to apply for loans in my name, etc.
