This scammer included some pictures of an apartment that was traced to Paris, France.

I am in UK now on an internship project attached to a firm of my Dad's Company and I have being sent to supervise and would be back by the end of November 2011. This security deposit will be refunded to you at the end of your stay in my apartment.

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that he will send the keys through a courier company.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Thanks for your mail,the rooms are still available and Like i said,my apartment has 3 rooms and a living room,so i use one room while two is for rent.The rent for the apartment is $700 Per Month while the security deposit is $400, and it is refundable at the end of your stay if nothing was destroy during your stay, either by you nore your guest.

There is also a washer and dryer in the apartment for the laundry needs and also to the apartment has a car park.Infact,it has being allotted two car spaces.

Attach to this email are the pictures of my room for rent, though you can still come and check out the apartment and the surrounding, but you may not be able to see the inside as l am not around at the moment due to my work, that is why l seek for friendly and neat person to rent the room.

As soon as i have confirmed you as my flatmate for reservation, My mother will send you the Keys to the apartment by mail and also send the contract documents and receipt aswell.

I have my friend with me, and we are actually looking for a room that we could share and we can stay for a month or two. Our budget is only 300-350SGD per head. So the 700SGD would be great for the two of us. Also, our move in date is on the mid of June.

I am calm and laidback person and my hobbies are reading, swimming and also at times on fridays/weekend, I attend social events but I have not being having the opportunity dues to my work to hang out with my friends but when I am free I go to the pool to relax my mind and also unwind. I also visit the gym to keep fit at times..

There are several indicators, but this is one of the biggest.

The scammer doesn't actually own the apartment he is advertising, so he is immediately trying to make an excuse for why you can't see the inside. The truth is, a real owner would be able to set up for someone to show you the inside of a place he/she owns.
