Welcome to ScamWarners erica16t, I am sorry to hear that you were fooled by someone.

Will you please post up the initial messages you received. Pluse post up the email address the messages came from.

There is not a lot the person can do with just information like your name or address.

If you gave them banking information or your credit card information, they could use that. If you have given that kind of information, you need to contact your bank or credit card company and ask them to change you your account numbers.

To give more specific help to you, we need more specific information about what you have given to this person.

If I recall correctly, the scam you fell for was a credit report scam.

Usually, the scammers in this situation are after nothing more than an affiliate fee. You probably were redirected to a credit report site like creditreport.com. If that's the case, and you gave a credit card number for your "free" report, the company will start billing you for a monthly membership in a credit monitoring service. In this case, the key is making sure you cancel the service, being careful to follow every instruction, and keep records of everything you do to cancel so that you can provide them to your credit card company if you have to file a dispute.

Though historically, identity theft hasn't been their target, if you gave enough information for ID theft to be a concern, it is probably a good idea to consider a fraud alert. There is more information here about fraud alerts:

And here is information from the DOJ about identity theft and fraud:

Hello,

Thank you for writing in regards to the property for rent. The good news is that the place is still available.

We thought we had a couple confirmed, lease signed, a week ago, but the husband lost his job and they ended up moving out of state. You were the first to reply to us about it since it was put back on the market. With that said, we are giving you the first shot at reserving the place.

As mentioned in the listing, we are requesting a minimum of a 12 month lease. We would entertain longer lease terms, but not shorter. I would simply give you the address and let you go by to see it first, however my husband and I have taken a very strict stance on not blindly giving people the address. We have heard some real horror stories about property management companies who do exactly that, and wind up with a home that is un-rentable due to vandalism, theft etc. Please understand the home has been up kept properly and had a professional, top-to-bottom cleaning and a fresh coat of interior paint. We know that you will love it when you see it!

If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the home, simply use the link below and print off a copy of your report. Please do not email me your credit report, as it is sensitive information. Hold onto it until we meet to walk through the property. Your score isn't necessarily important. I am just verifying that there are no evictions within the last 6 months or lease related judgments.

Please use this link to access your report:

We are flexible as far as times go to show you the place. Pretty much any time after 10 a.m. should be fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed out, and be sure to send me a telephone number to reach you at. I will call you to confirm a time to meet.

Thank you again,

Melissa Lewis
