The thief will tell you that you can rent his accommodation only if you can prove that you have genuine interest. He will ask you send money by wire transfer (normally Western Union) to yourself or a member of the family to show that you have sufficient finances and that you are not a "time waster".

Another variation of this scam is that you need to send (by Western Union) money in order that the keys and other documents can be couriered to you

He will ask you to send him the transfer details.

Make no mistake ! Western Union Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with the minimum of identification. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected. You will never get to see the accommodation or your money again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

im in Liverpool,due to my new job, which
is the reason why i want to rent out the apartment. Can you take care
of my flat as it is? Can you come along with your identity when you
coming for viewing? i can come for viewing by 5pm tmr.

As you have said you want to move in asap, it sounds good, it has
happened severally when tenants will keep asking landlords to come for
viewing and still yet they dont have the rent fee in complete, or they
say payment will be via benefits.

i have then concluded that any willing tenant that will bring me all
the way from liverpool will firstly have to prove his/her financial
capability and seriousness in renting my flat by making rent remit
btw him/herself and anyone that can accompany him/her to the viewing,

this will be done thru western union btw you and any relative or friend
that can
come with you for viewing, use your name as the sender and your
friend/relative
as the reciever,which will make the required fee available to receive
by your beneficiary after the viewing.

so that after the viewing i can go with her to
collect the rent fee which is in total of 600pounds, which a check
will be made on it to ensure its truly available with western union
till i arrive this evening.i have to be very sure you will be paying
the full amount and also i wouldnt want it to be like last week when i
came down and the student had another offer to live with a friend and
it all resulted to loss.

note that i didnt ask you to transfer the money to me before viewing
or having the flat.

All im just asking you to do is, located the western union outlet,
use ur name or your friends name as the
receiver, so as to be able to collect the money for me when i come tmr,
after you get the transfer done my lawyer will send
the details to western union confirmation desk and will receive an
alert if the transaction is truly available, with this i will be sure
that you are ready to pay me immediately if you like the flat and i ll be
responsible for the cost of transfer which i will deduct from the rent
fee. when this is verified i ll come down to london tmr
after my work to show you the flat and handover the keys to you, and
you get me paid immediately as i may not be chanced to come again to
London for the same purpose.

i hope you understand now, get back to me, to know when you will get
it done. or call me to make me aware that its been done, or email me
the scanned copy of the receipt to make a check so i can
schedule myself.
