This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union or MoneyGram with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

What rubbish is this Rom? Why are you doing this to spoil my carrier, I told you that am gonna return your money why can you be patient.

Note: This post was made by the scammer himself, who has been kind enough to visit us from his native Nigeria, because he is dumb enough to think that we won't see through his obvious attempt to make himself seem legitimate - dotti

After I contacted this dude, he sent to me two documents, a "Booking and Agreement Contract" and a "Proof of Legality". His "Proof of Legality" is an MSword document entitled "CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY_Weng Anderson.doc. It looks like a certificate. I cannot copy and paste the image here, but the legible text on the "certificate" reads:

"Florida Certificate Of Occupancy
Weng Anderson
This Is To Certify That The Person Whose Name Appears Above Is a Legitimate Member of the Florida Landlord Association and This Certificate was Issued Upon the Completion of The House @ 2655 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach FL 33140"

Then there is some fine print on the "certificate" that is almost illegible but here is how it reads:
"All funds raised during this “Immediate Public Opportunity” are tax deductible and will be used to build The Next Key facility at Hamilton Field, Novato, CA. The above named stockholder does not actually own stock or shares in the nonprofit public charity “Homeward Bound of Marin” or any of its assets. These IPO shares offer shareholders an opportunity to “take stock in their community."

I googled: "The Next Key" Hamilton Field, CA
Which led me to: https://www.ipohomeward.com/images/Home ... pectus.pdf
Which is a page for: "IPO Immediate Public Opportunity...to end homelessness" (a California organization).
Mr. Anderson lifted all of the images for his "certificate" from this page, including, laughably, his ridiculous fine print.

Pathetic.

Welcome to ScamWarners DRobertB. Because it is a scam, none of the information matters. The scammer just wants to take your money from you and spend it in Nigeria. Yes, they steal information from anywhere on the internet. Anything to make them self look legitimate.
