So, gullible, not scam-thinking me, goes ok, I'll give him some infos about myself... I do.. and get this in response:

Hello ,

Thanks for getting back to me with the details. Here is little about myself .....My name is Samuel Fabio Anderson,i was born in Netherlands and grew up in Netherlands. My father from Netherlands why my mother from Zürich.i was born in 10th January 1965, am married with 2 daugthers,Am nice, faithful, loyal, honest, caring, open minded,I work with vodafone company here in United Kingdom.i dont smoke but i drink socially.i love pet,I love warm weather, tropical drinks and sandy beaches. I like to party and have fun.

Two years ago, I Inherit the apartment from my late mother who is from Zürich. It's because am the only child and also here working for my company in United Kingdom and there is no way i could come to take good care of the apartment myself thats why i am looking for a reliable tenant who is going to take good care of this apartment for me in my absence

Whenever i traveled like that, I make use of house agent or a friend of mine over there but they cheated a lot on my tenants and my tenants complains alot about that. Thats is the reason why i took the keys along with me because i dont want my apartment to be used anyhow in my absence.

Also,I would like to put my trust in you.

So I hope you can promise me that you are going to take very good care of my apartment in my absence.

For you to get the place reserved we will both sign my rental agreement contract which is prepared by my lawyer which is documented with swiss's law and it is going to stand as guarantee for both of us.

I will sign it send it to your email box and you are going to print it, read it, fill it,sign it, scan it, email it back to me and after that you will go ahead with your payment.

Your fisrt month rent and security deposit . Once your payment is confirmed by me, i will post the keys and the receipt of your payment to you via DHL courier service it is just 1-2 delivery and email you the shipping code for you to know when the keys will be deliver to you so that you can have your keys and move into my apartment.

Do get back to me with the below informations so that we can proceed further:

Your full name:
Your full current address:
Nationality:
Passport id:
Date of birth:
Move in date and out:
Phone number:
Mobile Number:

I shall be waiting for the above informations soonest. Please make sure you send me your correct current address because i would use that in posting down the keys and the payment receipt to you after we must have concluded the contract. Feel free to call me anytime so that we can discuss more.

Best regards,
Sam

What finally got me was the above lines about liking to party etc. What the hell i thought. This isn't something a potential landlord would communicate. Also, the fact that his english is just terrible doesn't help, even a dutchman has better english skills than that. Add to this the fact that his email is very african sounding - oluwalase - and his phone number, +4470, which I actually googled as norwegian somehow, but appartently is some form of british redirect-to-africa service - it just smells fishy. I then found these forums, and gotta say his mails look alot like many other of these Nigerian (horribly presumptive of me huh) scammers.

Anyway. I'm not gonna send him my passport info, or anything else for that matter. I'm kinda curious about who I would talk to if I actually called the number, but my cell minutes are too precious for that kind of entertainment, really. Glad that I realized it before any real damage was done.

Here's to hoping that this helps someone.

Cheers

Welcome to ScamWarners geeselouieese, it is great you recognized that something was wrong and you didn't continue.

If you called the number, you would probably speak with the scammer or someone who works with or for the scammer to receive calls. Often it is the scammer, but as you say it is not worth wasting your phone credits to find out who you speak to.

We recommend not staying in contact with a scammer once you recognize it is a scammer you are involved with. Usually, they have real information on you and they can cause you difficulty.

My best to you as you look for an apartment. It seems like you have good instincts. Trust those and do not send money to anyone by Western Union, unless you know them face to face.

You saying that they can cause difficulty kind of freaks me out a little bit. All he has is my real name and my cell phone number, have there been cases of these guys sending local contacts around to rough up stubborn 'clients'?? Thankfully he doesn't have my local address, and I'm gonna go do some creative googling now, but I doubt he can find it online. I did however send him one last email telling him he smelled fishy and to have a nice day.

Now that I know what to look for I'm realizing there's quite a few of these up on wgzimmer.ch

I'm too lazy to go copy them all out though....

Hi geeselouieese,

follow Bubble's warning, stop contacting him. Do not confront them.
In this way they realize you are not going to pay, and they may opt to ignore you and move on the next (potential) victim.
Normally they prefer to hide behind fake identities (yes, they are cowards).
Those people are criminals, it is better to err on the safe side, especially when they have some real life details (and you said they do have your name and cellphone number).

Hi geeselouieese,

cutelilly is correct. At this stage if you just disappear the scammer will just move on. If you start messing with the scammer by calling the number and doing other things to mess with the scammer, there is a chance they could harass you, especially since they have your phone number.

Just drop contact, including blocking their number or putting no ring tone on their number. Without your address they can do little, but call you and email you. They want contact with people who will send them money. They are not into violent crimes. Just taking money under false pretenses.
