This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

I fell for this trap. The email he sent me was exactly the same except it was for a listing in Rio de Janeiro. I demanded a reference and some ID and he sent them both to me. The reference goes under [email protected], Victor Brown is the culprit and Wenger Lee is the cover. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIS STORY about relocating jobs to England or the fact that his past tenant was so bad an thats why he does not trust people. DO NOT PAY any deposit by western union or anything...

BE WARNED [email protected] IS ANOTHER ADDRESS BEING USED, UNDER THE NAME Magaret Corricanlin. I ALMOST GOT DUPED $1,100 BUT THANKFULLY THIS SITE EXISTS. WHEW!

I knew the pictures of the flat and asking price were too good to be true. Magaret Corricanlin, [email protected] is a scam. Luckily, I saw this post before it went further. This time the location was Happy Valley, Hong Kong. Be ware - if it's too good to be true, it typically is.

I just received from this guy with exactly the same message just a different location, Hamilton Ontario. Too good to be true. Beware!!

He's doing this in California now too! I received identical emails to the ones above and didn't think too much of it until I responded to another listing on craigslist and got the same email! While I know knew it was a scam I decided to play along and call him out, saying I was merely "skeptical of the great deal and sending money overseas." He responded:

Please understand me better, I was not trying to lure you into this, everything about me and my apartment are 100% real ok,

Am using this opportunity to inform you that am comfortable with your application form and accept your as my new Tenant, i believe you will take good care of my property like your own . The keys and document of the apartment will be deliver to your home address within 48 hours, so kindly clarify your delivery address with phone number.
