The following is a complete interaction between myself and someone who indicates they are Mary Dean from Hawaii; it was in researching (her) name that I came across this site. I posted my responses because they do not contain my actual specifics - ie my name and email has been removed but I think one can see how easy it is to be fooled and to become vulnerable; truly, I was excited to know more about this person and was interested in making them feel comfortable with me.... how ironic. After-all, I figured (she) would want to know as much about me to be comfortable sending me money as I would want to be comfortable with (her) to have (her) in my home. Although I am most disappointed that it was not valid meeting ... I really was looking forward to meeting this person .... I am MOST grateful for the information that I have gained and will continue to learn from this site. It is a lesson well learned and something I will most definitely share with my children. Thank you so very much!!! Please note the 2 variances in (her) emails. and I did report it to craigslist.

Yes the room is still available, and could be open to you in as little as a few days to a week. As explained in the listing, it is a bright sunny large room with a double closet. I would have to see if one of my daughters can take some pictures to put up; they are more suave with that kind of thing. I also would like to know more about your situation; and from where you are coming, what do you do for work, why are you moving, and do you have references? I had a most challenging situation with the person who resided with us last, and so I am being a much more cautious this time; I must have references from you. If you would like to contact me directly, you may. I would like more to speak with you first before having you come to check it out though; again, I am only being cautious and this is no reflection upon you.

I believe I was very clear in the previous email. Both the advertisement and my email have clarified your questions specific to actual cost. I have also given you my name. Perhaps you should re-read them. I read everything very carefully.
Again please send to me your references. I am only asking for references to confirm who you say your are. I will only work with someone who will permit a reference check. I am most happy to send to you a picture of the room on Monday along with the residential agreement containing all the specifics; as previously stated, I am currently busy with my grandchildren, and I must have my daughter take the picture of the room to upload it. Futhermore, I would have to write out the residential agreement specific to your name and identity. I can even fax it to you if you have a fax number.
But, since I cannot speak with you, and you will not give me the opportunity to try, I will NOT give out my specific street number UNTIL I have a better understanding as to who you are and where you are enrolled here in Reading Pennsylvania for your Masters Degree in microbiology!? I am very familiar with the colleges and universities in this area; I must be able to check your references.

This is my home and my family, and I will be prudent. You have sent to me a most very beautiful family photo, but I have no indication that it is a valid form of your identity. By the time I was completely through writing this, I had begun to search her out via Google and LinkedIn - wherein I may be listed, but do not have any specific private data listed. It was via the search that I spotted this Mary Dean name and where I came across this site. I can only than G-d that nothing further came of this. I did have a bad situation occur with someone of whom I was renting and that person was a local. Before my son headed out west years ago, he had connected with a roommate on line and we sent out money and had no problem, so for this person to pose as a young person and indicate that a parent would be sending funds was to me a very normal thing. But, it was something within me that kept saying to push for the references. Again, I thank the Universe for warning me and I thank this site for being there. If I had not found this site, I am not sure where it would have lead, but for certain, my intentions were to get complete references on this person.

Before my son headed out west years ago, he had connected with a roommate on line and we sent out money and had no problem, so for this person to pose as a young person and indicate that a parent would be sending funds was to me a very normal thing. But, it was something within me that kept saying to push for the references. Again, I thank the Universe for warning me and I thank this site for being there. If I had not found this site, I am not sure where it would have lead, but for certain, my intentions were to get complete references on this person.
