Hello,

Thanks for your email and interest in the property.. I personally own the property and also want you to know that it was due to my transfer that made me and my wife to leave the property and also want to give it out for rent and looking for a responsible person that can take very good care of it as we are not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean at all time and the person that will rent it to take it as if it were its own. So for now, We are here in VANCOUVER, CANADA, in our new house and also with the keys and documents of the Apt, we try to look for an agent that we can give this documents before we left but could not see and we are as well as don't want our property to be used any how in our present that is why we took it along with us. I and my wife came over to VANCOUVER for a missionary work, so i hope you will promise us to take very good care of the house. kindly get back to me on how you could take care of our Apt or perhaps experience you have in renting home. The rent fee is included all the utilities. I am looking forward to hear from you ASAP so that i can forward you an application form to fill out and discuss on how to get the property for rent.

God bless you

The thief will tell you that you can rent his accommodation only if you can prove that you have genuine interest. He will ask you send money by wire transfer (normally Western Union) to yourself or a member of the family to show that you have sufficient finances and that you are not a "time waster".

Another variation of this scam is that you need to send (by Western Union) money in order that the keys and other documents can be couriered to you

He will ask you to send him the transfer details.

Make no mistake ! Western Union Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with the minimum of identification. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected. You will never get to see the accommodation or your money again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Well, it seems Mr Hayes Derly is a very busy man. I inquired about a rental unit in Port Credit through Craigslist. There were actually 2 postings for the exact same address which made no sense at all.

Both had the address 885 Lakeshore Road E, Unit 1, Mississauga. Since I live in the area I had the ability to view the property. It was difficult to tell if the unit was vacant but there were no "For Rent" signs anywhere in the area. The 8 or so units in this building are live-work units so Mr. Derly is apparently thorough. He also included pictures which very much resembled what I could see of the main floor inside the unit.

The details for the ads (as per the Craigslist postings) are:

PostingID: 2899903840 on March 13, 2012
"$850 / 2br - 2 bedroom apt (885 lakeshore rd east#1)"
email: [email protected]
and,
PostingID: 2898656665 on March 12, 2012
"$1600 / 2br - 1000ft² - live /work (885 lakeshore rd east#1)"
email: [email protected]

I have yet to respond to his email but I'm sure the response will be similar to other scams. If anyone would like me to respond so that we can obtain further details of this potential scam I'd be more than happy to oblige.

Be careful people.....between me a friend of mine, we've come into contact with about 4 scams just within the past month (with respect to rentals and job offers). This doesn't even include the half dozen email scams that seem to find their way into my inbox each month.

Below is the email response I received from him after inquiring about the "2" properties (10 points to anyone who can find a single thing different in this email and the one in the previous post :o ):
