Subject: Re: Craigslist apartment ad

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in my apartment. Maybe I have a shot time to write this but I will try to give you a complete detail of the apartment. We were trying to open a recording studio in Amsterdam at the time I secured the apartment. I was really afraid to give the apartment out to a destructive person. We are trying to establish a new recording studio in Lagos now so the apartment will be open for 2 years and 3 months starting now as I are away.

The address is - Kloveniersburgwal 222, 1011 Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The utility bills are included in the monthly rent of 800 Eur, they are the wireless Internet, Electricity, Heating, water and the cable TV. The washer and dryer are in the apartment store room. If you are staying for up to 1 year an upfront 2-month rent will be paid for the first and last months of occupancy. And if you are staying for bellow 5 months 1-month rent will be paid for the first 1 month you will occupy the apartment.

The sleeping area offers a bright and spacious bedroom furnished. The en-suite bathroom, fitted with a large stall shower, bathtub, and toilet. The apartment key is right here with me. The kitchen is new and complete with everything including refrigerator and dishwasher. The living room has a flat screen with cable connected to it.

Do you keep pets? Have you rented a furnished apartment before? I don’t have a friend or family there yet and I am not interested in handing out keys to outside agents. Instead I only want to deal directly with the tenant renting my apartment to bridge a good understanding.

If you are fine with my terms let us know and we will conclude this. I will sign a clear agreement with you and then accept the first rent and then send the key and the rental agreement only to your present address from where the rent has been sent from. But if you don’t feel comfortable with my terms I advise you look for a different place to rent.

Let me know if you are fine with my terms.

Thank you.

Darius

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.
