Room for Rent and other rental scams

Thanks for your interest. I appreciate that you contacted me!

How's your day?

My name is Howard Warnock and I'm the owner of the apartment, I love this apartment and it means a lot to me! I attached a few pictures of it, therefore check the attached file.

It has just been renovated - the apartment looks exactly like in the pictures, with 2 parking spots - totally finished, fully furnished and I have the option of sending all my furniture into storage if you want to bring your own, no extra costs. It is unoccupied, clean, quiet, has all the facilities and the utilities: Washing machine... Dishwasher... Dryer... Refrigerator... Stove... Oven... Juice Machine... Iron... Toaster... Coffee Maker... Microwave... Vacuum cleaner. It is very close, in walking distance to local transport, close to school, restaurants, and shopping, with very quiet neighbors and safe area.

The rent for 1 month is $900.00 (for the whole apartment). The lease is flexible, can be month to month, min stay 3 months, max 7 years. The price will not increase monthly, it will remain the same for the whole period that the contract will be signed for.

The all utilities are included in this price (rent/month). No extra fees! It means water... sewer... trash... electricity... gas... cable and Internet. Don't miss out on this opportunity! I think $900.00 is a good deal.

Anyway, you must understand, I'm not looking to make a business or a profit with it, I just want to find the proper tenant, someone who will treat and care my apartment like it was his own.

If you are really interested in this apartment, I want this rental to be as smooth as possible, I really need to take care of this matter by the end of the next week.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and I will send you more details.

Respectfully,
Howard Warnock

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.
