Rental scam

Mark Robertson [[email protected]](also known for a housekeeping scam in 2010, per your site) and Mark Allister [[email protected] ] and now Mark K. Peters (all the same person) almost made me believe he was for real, until I Googled his name. Your site came up. He sucked us in by asking questions that made us feel connected with him. Then he asked more questions (some of the same again) and told us his employer (General Dynamics, which is a facility which builds tanks, etc., for the US government) 45 miles from us would send the deposit. Being that his alleged employer is a government facility, it made it impossible to verify his temporary transfer to this area. The following is from the last email he sent me.

Thanks for the email, details and information and i am ready to proceed by secure the property from you.

1) What is the average weather like there?
2) What are the nearest banks, grocery store, gas/petrol stations, hair salon, parks, playgrounds, coffee shops?
3) Also I will like to know if there is any garage or parking space cos I will have my own car .

In regard to the lease agreement and application, I will have it filled and signed on my arrival in your place as I am of the opinion that such documents are best filled and signed physically by appending signatory at best physical. We can start the lease by asap and I will be doing a one year lease from Sept 15TH. You can prepare the lease in my name.

I will be willing to pay 1 month rent to start with plus the security deposit in order to secure this unit prior to my arrival.

So my financier would be needing the following Information to make out the check:

All the red flags are there! Even his birth date was the day he sent it. Happy Birthday, Mark.

Mark K. Peters is now contacting me about purchasing product which he saw on the internet from us. This guy obviously makes a career scamming people.

Welcome to ScamWarners Almost fell for it. Scammers do not use their real name. They choose names and use that name to hide from the law and anyone else.

It looks like the scammer was setting you up to be a money launderer for him. When the scam was eventually discovered, you would have been the one who would have been held accountable.

Thanks for the warning! I sent an application before thinking to search for scam information, but I will ignore anything that comes back from this address. The only info they got was our business address & phone, but not my full name. The birth date does not change I suppose. Ironically the reason I responded is that General Dynamics actually has an office close by our apartments. The text is identical on the second e-mail I will post the first e-mail here:
