Room for Rent and other rental scams

Note the poor English, as well as the use of a 4470 number. This a redirect phone number, used frequently by scammers who are pretending to be in UK when they are not.

Hello ,

Thanks Good to read back from you, sorry this is coming late been busy all day just got back from work. The room is available as a matter of fact you would be the first person to contact me after the post on craigslist.org...It will be my pleasure to let you have the room if you are ok with the terms.

I have attached the picture the room and other space you would be occupying like the kitchen(which is shared), the bathroom and toilet(en-suit) and the corridor.

I'm having problems with my phone right now can't make calls or receive calls, but here is my number +447024051040......I will let you know when it is available. In the main-time let me have your number if need be to call you so fast. You are free to ask questions.

I noticed the attached pictures didn't go with the previous mail.

Looking forward to reading from you soon again...cares!

Julian.

Scammer then attempts to prove "she" is real by sending a photo to the target.

????: FW: picture!

That's me in black, and Mary in strips. We only got this picture, I don't even have it I had to ask Mary to forward it to me.
Hope you are doing good? Are you ok with the room? And are you willing to come stay so I can get you the agreement form for you.
Take care.
Cheers.

Julian.

The problem? This "new" photo was stolen from a language college website, where it was posted in 2011..

Even though the victim is not responding at this point, the scammer continues with the next script. The attachment is a standard rental contract stolen from a real rental agency or realtor.

Here is the attached form, you will print it out fill it and sign then attach it back with your scanned passport or drivers license.
You will need to send the rent advance fee plus security deposit so I can secure the room for you upon arrival as I will be getting you the reciept for the room after payment. As you know the whole amount you will be sending is 620GBP. You will be sending it through Money Gram.
Transfer information:
Receiver's name: Julian Robertson
Location: London, Uk.
You will forward also the name you used in sending the money plus the transfer reference number on the slip.
I hope you understand why am doing this, because you have shown interest and as the first person to contact me, we would be glad to let you have the room? Let me know your flight details so I can come to pick you when you arrive, if you wouldn't mind.
Mary is saying hello.....see you soon!
Cares...

Julian.
