Planning a family trip to NY, I came across an advertisement for a very interesting appartment in SoHo at a very affordable price.
However the owner/apparment had not any reviews on the site, neither had the owner completed his profile with the verifications offered by the website hosting the ads (verified photos, verified phone number etc.).
So I contacted the owner through the website's messaging system, and asked why there were no reviews. The "owner" immediately pulled out the email exchange on to his personal email account, provided references and talked about his personal questionnaire we would have to fill in to prevent both, him and me, from "future occurrences or eventualities".
Well that was enough for me to start investigating. When I googled the first reference he gave (Daniel Kaat) it was immediately clear that this was a scam. So I stopped here, ways before he would ask me for money transfer.
Many thanks to scamwarners for the possibility to post these reports here. This allowed me to unveil the scam rapidly.
Here the details:

The host has requested more information: Thanks for the interest in my apartment, it is available for the date. The apartment is located in a safe & quiet neighborhood of Soho Tribeca. You will be required to fill in the rent questionnaire to protect both host & renters from future occurrences or eventualities when staying in the apartment through my personal email as the form cannot be attached through the site OWENBOLTON @ POST .
